January 2021 Transfer Window

Have a feeling Cutrone has been here a few days and the announcement was just delayed due to testing/clearance. Easy to hide things with no press or fans allowed at the training ground.
Yeah could be the case. They've known for at least four days too as the club tweeted him on his birthday :D

Linked with Lassina Traore from Ajax yesterday (along with West Ham). Ajax are signing Haller from West Ham so might be some legs in that one

Would be a good additional wide option I reckon

Imagine if we'd signed Cutrone and he hadnt played for us before. I don't think I'd be particularly impressed!

That's a good site, thanks.
The link I've provided is a VERY small sample size as they both have had such limited minutes for us in the league so it's hard to get a true picture. But Patrick does at least have more league experience, is older, stronger, and does have some qualities he can use (pressing, positioning in box) IMO. Whereas right now Fabio has had a good experience getting some minutes, can go away and work to be ready physically and technically the next time he gets a run. I think there is still a good chance we sign a striker and then Patrick leaves by the end of the month anyway tbh!

I think that's a fair point. If you looked at Patrick's stats in the PL - say he'd played for WHU - you wouldn't be enthusiastic. But all we can do is support him and hope for the best...

he played 297 minutes. Scored two goals.

His xG in that time was 2.4 (0.72 per 90).

So I don't think it is his stats that were the problem IMO.

Its the fact he's done naff all since then.

I hope he does well mind.

Yeah it does little to prove things either way, but it is interesting.

It's better that we have PC than we don't, definitely. I'm just not sure he will offer any more goal scoring threat than Fabio has, which seems to be the overall general opinion.

Yeah, I get that, and I'm also not saying he was amazing for us. His main problem though was that he wasn't Raul!

His stats at Fiorentina are also interesting https://fbref.com/en/players/a4fe8cda/Patrick-Cutrone

He scored four in the equivalent of nine 90 minutes last season He clearly just didn't fit the profile of what they were looking for. The one run of games he actually had for Fiorentina, he played with Ribery behind him and he did alright. I watched a game and he was fairly good.

this season has had almost no minutes at all. Maybe he's a shit trainer? I don't know. I think he can score goals, he defends well from the front but the bits inbetween, not so strong which is maybe what people are looking from him.

Imagine most of that xG was from his chance(s) at Man City of all places!

When we lost v Everton he had 2 great chances in that game and Pickford pulled off a couple of decent saves to deny him.

The one he missed at Man City, when he was clean through and spannered wide, well he had an indentical chance for the Italian U21's a few weeks later and finished it superbly

Yeah, and he was very unlucky not to score at Everton too. Imagine if one or two of them go in, could have made things very different.

Could he have had no minutes for Fiorentina this season so they were not obliged to buy? Maybe they thought he wasn't worth the price we wanted.

That's an interesting perspective and one I didn't have, so thank you for that.

If he can stick the ball in the net and press well then he'll have done alright. With our new approach to playing hopefully we won't need him to drop deep to get the ball.

I think we've got two very different strikers at the club and we'll have to have two very different ways of playing to get the best out of them.

Same could be said about Fabio v Villa or against Spurs too.

There is very little to choose between the two at the moment for me.

I doubt the photo tweeted at 9.45 this morning would have been from today's training
