January 2020 transfer window

What did someone say yesterday? It's only January 10th FFS. Why worry about recruitment FFS.
Wolves no-options-on-the-bench 1-1 Absolutely crap Newcastle team,
That's why

So, given Newcastle played with 11 men in their own half for 60 minutes+ what changes would you have made? What changes would have affected the game? I'll gladly concede we had no options but what are we talking that would have turned that from a draw into a win?

I'm being deliberately obtuse, but I do find the current climate around our transfer dealings to be a tad reductive.

We need reinforcements, that much is certain. But reinforcements don't change the fact that the team that was put out today is too good to concede a goal like they did. There are failures on both sides.

Soon we'll be accusing Fosun of lacking ambition. Meanwhile we sit within touching distance of the top 5 of the bloody Premier League. We're doing absolutely fine at the moment.

Bang. On.

Can't wait for the usual suspects to say I'm a cunt for replying to you mate.

Personally, I’d have put Vinagre to left back and Jonny to right back, neves to right centre back with MGW in centre mid from 70 minutes. Newcastle barely crossed the halfway line, and that would have given us more attacking impetus. Neves was almost standing on Donk anyway.

I wouldn't have been against Vinagre on but I'd have moved Jonny to RWB as I thought Doherty was poor today. Ideally I'd have looked at either Adama or Neto for another striker to put their defence under more pressure as they had it too easy and while neither had a bad game they didn't really influence it either.

Basically all I want to know is who do people expect us to sign who can have the impact we needed today? It's alright saying 'we need reinforcements because we drew to a shit Newcastle' but who? If recruitment was that easy we'd all be laughing (as well as all the other 19 Premier League clubs).

That’s not a bad shout. 5 at the back really does hinder us In games likes this. Moving Neves back maintains the defensive and offensive shape but has that extra man in final 1/3 which makes the difference.

Neves got forward a lot today and him playing further up the pitch is far better for him and us. Our problem today was having 4 wide players and 1 in the box.

Even a broken clock (me) is right twice a day. :icon_wink:

I wouldn’t be against us looking at Tangana - Out of contract in the summer. Think he’d be pretty solid on the right of our defence (though we have a similar age played in Kilman)

Yeah, totally agree there. It was as if the penalty box was almost a no-go zone. Neto and Adama need to be a lot smarter off the ball rather than sticking wide waiting for the pass to them standing still. I wonder if it might be worth them switching wings more? It's pretty unusual for wide forwards to play on the side of their dominant foot these days

Adama played wide left a couple of times last season (Brighton away springs to mind) and was truly horrible. I wouldn't mess with him at all, it's taken him ages to look good. He isn't one you can overcomplicate things with.

For all that he didn't have a brilliant game, he was still heavily involved in all of our attacking moments bar the goal.

He has improved a lot since then though, particularly his finishing which would be more useful cutting in from the left. I still wouldn’t play him there for more than a quick 10 minute switch occasionally though.

He's improved massively like, and he does look dangerous. But there are times when I'm watching* him and just wish to fuck I could control him and make a one-two or start a sprint from a position that he wouldn't normally, into space and just trust that the ball will make its way into his run. We've got passers in Moutinho and Neves that will find him with that ball, if he made the run. That's definitely a tactical thing for me.

*on TV obviously, so that doesn't really count

He is waaaaaaay better at that now. Towards the end he was knackered. No more left to give today.

He’s a sprinter. You don’t expect sprinters to move in a similar way to long distance runners, he needs time to recuperate after bursts of energy. We need to accept that and find ways to use him - as we have done very successfully.

That said he did a great bit of tackling back at one point which was really good to see.

The one thing that really annoyed me today with Adama was in the first half where he beat a guy and could have crossed the ball in. There were four players in the box to aim for, but he decided to try and beat another player and ended up dribbling a terrible pull back straight along the floor to a Newcastle defender.

Really pissed me off that, mainly because we rarely get those sorts of numbers in the box.

"And now, another path emerges, less demanding, but also exciting: that of Wolverhampton . According to MundoDeportivo, the English club, where former rojiblancos such as Raúl Jiménez, Jonny Otto or Diogo Jota are, may be Lemar's destination.
The painting directed by Nuno Espírito Santo has Jorge Mendes as 'godfather'. Owned by a Chinese conglomerate, the famous player representative carries in the shadow the reins of this team that in 2018 promoted to the Premier, where he is marching right now. There are many players that Mendes has taken to the Wolves in recent times, and out there, the good relations between Atlético and the agent, a key figure in the arrival of Joao Félix to the Metropolitan, can be essential for Lemar to leave from Madrid and arrives at Wolverhampton in this month of January. However, there has only been a slight contact between clubs and there is still a lot of fabric to cut to know if the British team would be willing to meet the pretensions of the rojiblanco team."

He !ooked shagged.

Given the complete lack of ambition from Newcastle I would have tried Vinagre up top in place of Neto for the last quarter. His pace could have created one more chance from a higher position.

Vinagre did nothing in his 10 minute cameo to suggest he would have been better than Neto.
