January 2017 Transfer Thread

Massive reason why we need a broom to sweep everyone who was at the club pre-Fosun out of the way.

Still operating on the Morgan/Moxey way of talking. Now obviously I don't want Kev out there saying "fuck FFP, we are going to spend and spend big" but the stuff about Costa just stinks of very very low ambition. It may well be the case that staying in this Division means Helda will be elsewhere next season but don't speak like Marvin the Paranoid Android about the chances ffs

My word, he talks some absolute shite doesn't he? It's like he's read the 'How to do PR the Moxey Way' and ran with it.

Not a fan of Thelwell either, but in this instance he's in a no win situation.

It's an impossible job, pleasing a football fan. He promises we'll sign him, or states "we're ambitious and we'll do anything we can to keep Helder here" - when we don't the fans go ballistic.

So instead, he's realistic and tells it how it is - but surprise, surprise - the fans go ballistic.

So just don't say anything. Pretty simple really.

Some fans will be like that whatever is said but the interview reads as if at the end he slits his wrists and the whole thing comes across as him telling Tim II "and George Saville will get a new 5 year deal and a promise of playing wide left as long as he is at least 60% fit each week"

I have no major issue with Kev and Co but they need shuffling off to pastures new as right now are stuck in an odd position where the new owners have their ambitions and the old staff, 4 months on, are still operating the same as they did 4 months after Morgan took his toys away. With Jeff not being at the club a great deal that means that attitude remains at the club. New people needed to put across what Fosun want correctly.

Thelwell said that the youngsters are now getting a chance at first team level, which is something that has been mentioned on here regularly. So if we move on those players surplus to requirements, it will probably give more of our talented crop of academy players an opportunity to prove themselves. And blend them in with a few quality signings and maybe we will get the balance right.

Then the fans go ballistic because they've not had any updates.

I mean, the guy has been asked a question about a certain player and he's answered it.

Or more worryingly, FOSUN like what they see in Thelwell.

This transfer window we will really see if FOSUN are still interested in the challenge.

They have to be putting pressure on Lambert and Thelwell to produce a winning team the other side of the transfer window. One that looks capable of mounting a promotion charge next season. Without progress Fosun should be saying goodbye to both of them.

Why are people still using capital letters for Fosun?

LANGERS thinks it's a bit silly.

A stock FM answer would be better than what he said. 'There's certainly a lot of interest from our side. Can we do a deal? It's too soon to say'.

Or maybe FOSUN will say goodbye to Wolves. As I have said before, they came in with this great fanfare, but look where we are now. Things have not improved, they have got worse.

Not really, we picked up 24 points from 21 games last season after Afobe left and we entered the era of Morgan actively downsizing our ambitions, we've got 25 points from 22 games now. So it's roughly the exact same return, we're still rubbish at home, but we've been a lot more interesting to watch (we aren't really boring now, whereas we definitely were last season). Plus had Fosun not arrived then we'd have signed hardly anyone full stop - including of course Costa who's been easily our best player - and sold off whatever we could.

That isn't the same as 'We'll sign him' is it?

If he did say the highlighted quote and then caveat with 'These are the type of players we should be looking at as a club' and 'It will be tough without offering Prem football but with people like (Mendes) involved then we will be trying our hardest'. It isn't hard to put a positive spin on things without sounding like utter bollocks.

Instead we get, 'no chance of keeping him' and 'we have fringe players we need to get rid of'. It's a negative take on things and an arse covering excuse for his and his staff's inadequacies in being able to sign (or even identify) the right players for an upward moving club.

As Kenny says, it's a culture that will win nothing and one of a club fighting for pennies rather than trying to look forward. He and his team need to go.

It wouldn't be hard for Thelwell to say that Costa is great and we want to keep him and leave it at that, as it is he's basically already told us he's not staying so cheers for that, Kev

Why do you keep saying they might leave Frank?

There is absolutely no evidence for that. For a start they would be down on the deal to the tune of £14m summer spend and the wage bill they have financed. No finance company operates that way. Secondly, they would need to find a buyer. Ask SISU how that is going in Coventry.

And things absolutely haven't got worse at all. That is just nonsense.

I don't really see the problem with what thelwells said - costa will get better offers if we don't go up, so we'd need to go up to keep him... no shocks there.

And they'd lose a lot of "face." Nope, I'm fairly convinced that Fosun want Wolves to be very successful, but haven't quite worked out how to go about it yet. However big the Chinese Super League is, and however ridiculous the money batted around in it, the real prize for a Chinese company is surely owning a successful PL team
