January 2017 Transfer Thread

Can't see it personally. We already have Cav who plays there, Graham will be back soon. Zyro next season as well.

I don't see it happening but let's not kid ourselves if he is available then we should be right in there. He's a class above when fit in this division and it gives us more options because if Costa or Cav get injured i think we're light on quality in those areas for sure.

Nash (yeah, I know) reckons we're after Ben Marshall.

He's ok, tends to put weight on a bit too readily but a decent footballer. Can only think we'd be signing him as a RB though...and he really isn't a specialist there. Nor is it hard to find decent full backs, we've just made it look that way for most of the last 25 years.

Also thinks Stearman, CBJ, Wallace, Prince, Tex and Gladon are going. I'd say he's got a good chance of being half right.

Prince surely won't be going anywhere.

Can see all of those, although harsh on Prince. He's been injured basically since before Lambert got here, right? Way too early to write him off, he's not played badly either.

Also makes sense to send Stearman back if we bring in someone else at CB. The only real question is whether any clubs out there would want Gladon, even on loan. Can't get rid of him without someone wanting him.

If Nash is ghosting the feature I read today he reckons Lambert wants to see Prince play first before making a decision. If we stick with the bleeding obvious 4231 system we played on Saturday and have all known we need then he could theoretically do the Edwards role, but we know Dave ain't getting dropped.

Marshall did well for Lambert last year at right wing/right back. He's out of contract in the Summer so seems a credible link. Better option at right back than Coady, Doherty and (the current) Iorfa, better back up at right wing than Henry who I imagine will be back here soon. Not bad business I'd say

Gladon has played for two clubs already this season. Can we bin him even if we want to?

I think Saturday has proved that the 10 role in that system can't be played by Edwards as it doesn't give us enough. We really should be replacing him with an actual footballer and playing Prince/ Cav/ Tex/ Bright in that role.

On the Marshall thing, it does my swede in that all football managers fail to address the glaringly obvious deficits in the squad to get players in that they know, especially in the spots they don't really need to address.

Edwards was one of the 2 for the first hour, which is where Prince could play in this system. In fairness he played well, but didn't see him as MOTM like TimII and the Wolves Twitter vote. I'm never going to be his fan club captain but he is probably offering more to the team now than at any point in the last decade.

If we sign a forward player an out an out Number 9 is what we need. The wide positions are where we are strongest so it makes no sense whatsoever to bring Sako back. The wages should be spent on a position which would improve the first XI which basically means anywhere else.

Sako is one of those stories that come up at this time of year - not in the team where he is now, a favoured son of previous club, lets start a story about a move back.

Would be incredibly surprised if this has any legs on it.

I don't disagree with any of that and if we must play him then one of the pair. I would rather play Price and Saiss with Prince/ Tex/ Cav/ Bright in front of them or get a quality ball playing midfielder to play with Price/ Saiss.

I don't mind Edwards as one of the two for now so long as a) we really are playing 4-2-3-1 properly, with a genuine #10, b) his partner isn't Coady or Saville and c) we don't get tempted to shift Dave to #10 at any stage.

Long term obviously he isn't the answer but as Tony says he's probably contributing more now than he ever has. So fair play.

I don't care how many players we have. He's is head and shoulders above all of them. Him alone would lift the fans and the team even without factoring in his individual quality.

Apparently money is no issue either so thats moot.

Edwards is useful in what is a fairly young squad at the moment - you know that he cares & will do his utmost (even with a limited skill level). You know what you are going to get from him, effort & industry with the odd goal thrown in which is more than some here have managed.

He will get his testimonial for 10yrs here & hopefully drift out of the picture as we won't need him & he can finish his career further down the pyramid where his skill set matches more closely to the football on show.

Don't have any bad feelings towards him, just hope that he realises that the Zidane song is ironic rather than an expression of his quality.

There is so much more scope to improve the team elsewhere. Both Cav and Costa are playing well, we’d be better focusing anywhere else. Bringing in a keeper, two fullbacks, two centre halves, a ball playing CM and a centre forward all make more sense, especially as Graham might be fit in the medium term.

Why not get them as well. If it was a case of one or other I may agree with you (actually, no I won't, all I want for Xmas is Bakary Sako).

I think bringing in more than 3-4 could potentially be disruptive so I’d focus elsewhere. Probably irrelevant as I suspect there are teams with a real chance of promotion who would be more attractive to Sako if he does leave Palace.

You think too many would be disruptive, but also want to bring in 2 full backs and 2 centre backs?

The defence needs strengthening thats for certain

The midfield needs some extra creativity

We need a striker who scores.

Shit that's a whole rebuild!

I do want to see 3 in at least 3 out
