Agreed. Its not as if we've been terrible all season, but the last couple of months have been turgid. We have been better than under Nuno last season for the most part (not miles better mind) but since the Leeds loss we've just nosedived in every area of the team.

I'm still in the "give him 10-15 games next season with some new players to see what he can do" camp. But I know a lot of people aren't.
I'd probably also be in the 'give him the beginning of next season' camp but his history at Benfica suggests its his usual progression. Even if he is given a handful of good players coming in, I have severe doubts in his ability to turn them into a cohesive unit.

But there is a huge difference, we are still watching the best players we've had in our lifetimes, Neves, Moutinho, and to a lesser extent Neto, Coady, there are good players and/or big characters.

I just don't think it's in anyway comparable to what we were watching under Hoddle, Lambert or Saunders.
Doesn't matter, the aesthetic value is awful regardless of who's wearing a gold shirt.

If anything it's worse as I knew that a team containing a complete past it midfield of Ince, Anderton, Kennedy and Cameron was unlikely to produce good football. We have some very capable players now and we're shit.

And the problem with giving him 10-15 games is that you potentially completely wreck a season doing that, if he continues to be terrible (our form over a whole third of a season would get us relegated) then at best someone comes in and stabilises us, keeps us up and has to start again after we've spent money on what may or may not be fit for purpose, at worst it's not salvageable and we go down.

He's done nothing at all to merit that opportunity. If you could see some good signs then fine, maybe write off the results as the squad needs a refresh anyway and let's see what he can do. As it is, we're shocking and he talks absolute bollocks. There isn't anything to suggest he'd do better with different players.

If you're managing a top half Premier League team then you need experience and gravitas before you even consider tactical acumen. He has none of those.

Isn't he the guy Bruno was number 2 to? Ex Swansea manager?

By the end of January, middle of Feb, we were on a high, a comfortable 8th in the league by several points, and everyone was raving about getting into Europe and how good our defence was. That's a good sign isn't it?

Surely the manager has to take credit for that if he's taking the blame for the last 3 months results? Particularly when most people weren't expecting us to be even in the top 10, and you in particular were convinced we were going to be relegated.

No-one is excusing our collapse since then, but equally you can't just write off the first 5 months worth of results this season.

When the regression is so stark and (IMO) sudden, it absolutely devalues what came before.

Don't think I ever said we'd go down this season.

We could next year though.

That first five months also includes a run of four defeats in five and a separate run of 2 goals in 8 games. We've largely been horrible.

I remember you saying it because I thought it was a harsh prediction.

We've been horrible in terms of scoring goals for 2 or 3 seasons. Bruno inherited that along with the squad. Even more so once Raul got his injury.

That's a fair point but the concern is apart from a decent performance against Villa, every game for 2 months we've been really, really poor. If he could have turned it round in at least a couple of those games, then maybe. It just seems a trend with no positive outcomes.

Since the beginning of December we’ve only beaten our opponent’s XG four times. Sa has been a large reason for that. Obviously XG is just one statistic but it suggests we’ve ridden our luck quite a bit. That’s an average of one game every six weeks we’ve had more chances than our opponents. It’s unlikely our return in points will continue if that trend continues and there’s precious little evidence to suggest it won’t

Not that it really matters what anyone thought before we'd even kicked a ball.

I just think we haven't been as terrible as you say all season. Recent form is awful, previous form was good. I personally don't remember thinking we looked a horrible team before the Leeds game.
