General Wolves News

I go to watch the football which will still be there after Morgan, Moxey and Mineyshop. I won't spend another penny anywhere else at the club - no shirts, no refreshments, no programmes. I don't think supporters should suffer because of the actions of a few at the club but if everyone who finds this distasteful actively bans themselves from the club shop and kiosks the club would soon take notice. They can't do anything without Money Shop's agreement but three years is a long time to continue a toxic business relationship.

I hadn't even noticed they were sponsoring the south bank tbh.
Like I say, of you don't like it the best protest is basically not buying the shirt. Petitions will get absolutely nowhere in the current climate of distrust between club and fans. Fans are using it as a convenient stick, Moxey will see it as a convenient excuse for just having a moan. So nothing will happen.

Whilst I hold out no hope of a petition making any difference, I think it will at least serve the purpose of letting the club know that this is an unpopular decision that a lot of fans aren't happy with.

There could be many reasons not to buy a shirt, whereas there is only one reason to sign the petition.

However, if commercial income from Silverbug shirts is £xk, and commercial income from Money Shop shirts is £xk-y, it is not unreasonable to make the conclusion that the change in sponsor has made an income difference. Especially if the new shirt design happened to be a bit of a classic which ticked all the other boxes in terms of what fans want*

*it won't. However, one can dream

for me, whilst it's not such a biggie, it does put a lie to the club championing the concept of building a community club. you can't say that and at the same time open your door at a price to any predatory organisation that wants to exploit your fan base.

A petition got Bolton to pull out of their main sponsorship deal with Quickquid. Moxey has a thick skin and doesn't give two figs about the club or fans so probably won't change his mind, but petitions can and do work.

Bolton had a one year deal. We have a three year one.

Bolton hadn't completely fallen out with their fans then. We have.

There is complete distrust on both sides. And so any petition will get completely ignored. A vote with your wallet will have far more impact.

Is The Money Shop really any worse than the high street banks which have been fined hundreds of millions for "mis-selling" expensive insurance policies, "fixing" interbank interest rates to their own advantage and helping rich people evade paying tax?

I've seen this argument a couple of times and the simple answer is yes. People need a bank to earn money from a job, pay their bills and keep their money in. The new Wolves sponsor is not needed at all and it too has been caught and fined by the FSA for financial mis-selling meaning they had to pay £15m back to people they'd fleeced ( Details here )

The petition is up to 2,000 signatures now - or about 10% of our average attendance this season....

So still not many then.

It would probably have to get close to 50% before anyone at Wolves even batter an eyelid.

I do not think the club would bat an eyelid even if 20,000 signed the petition. As TSB alluded to, the only way to get the club to take notice is to not purchase anything while at Molineux.

Sheff Wed given the quadrant for the last game of the season as well as the SB Lower, 4300 tickets in total which is a good decision.

There's a big difference between alleged PPI misspelling and Libor fixing.

Different arms of the bank for starters and I'd query the misselling angle in tons of cases too.

I wasn't aware of banks helping the rich avoid tax either. That's what accountants and financial managers are for.

I daresay somewhere along the line some investment banks have helped the rich avoid tax. I remember HSBC having issues. But that's hardly the high street element!

Precisely.

The main thing would be supply of an offshore account. However that would be set up by scheme managers who would just pick bank A because they had a facility in a suitable country, or indeed island (when all of this could very easily be run through the Isle of Man, Guernsey or Jersey).

It could be argued that the need for the taxpayer to bail out the banks and the subsequent recession has led to more people requiring the services of such lenders. Banks may not be willing to lend to them and the alternative of a back street loan shark is worse than a regulated payday loan company. The MP for Kidderminster stated on Radio WM this morning that both he and some debt charities welcome the part in which responsible payday lenders can give access to finance to sections of the population.
