General Wolves News

Just shows the contempt they have for their own brand that they're willing to let a company like that advertise on the front of our shirts.

I've also always felt that sponsors like these (and SportingBet before) were massively disrespectful to players like Nouha Dicko. I doubt there will have been much thought given to how he feels about having their brand plastered all over his chest.

I hope there's some sort of petition started to get this decision reversed.

Why Dicko in particular?

Seems a bit strange that everyone's suddenly so outraged at it being on a shirt but seemingly had no issue with it plastered all over a stand for some time.

He's a Muslim.

I think it was Cisse at the time who refused to wear any Newcastle shirt with Wonga's branding on. Could also be offensive for Dicko.

It's not morally the best sponsor in the world but football as a sport has been morally bankrupt for years.

He's a Muslim.

Learn something everyday.

Still, that's business, I wouldn't imagine there's much interest in shirt advertisement these days outside the select few, can't imagine many clubs would consider the feelings of one player when potentially receiving a chunk of cash with few alternatives. He might not even care anyway, very few people follow their religion to every letter.

Wasn't Cisse then made to look a bit of a cunt photographed leaving a casino?

Seems strange to me that a player would refuse to wear a shirt with a loan company as sponsor but would play for a club who were in all likelihood, having to have some degree of external funding to pay for his wages.

Muslim cricketers for South Africa (sponsored by Castle Lager) are given special kit to wear with no alcohol branding. Same applies to Fawad Ahmed of Australia (VB) and Azharullah of Northants wears a kit without Old Speckled Hen sponsorship on the front.

Didn't stop the club taking the sponsorship though did it? Perhaps something similar will happen with Dicko if he turns out to be that offended by it.

We've had some pretty shit sponsors since Goodyear so this one really doesn't bother me, to be honest

From what I've seen this seems to reflect the opinion of most Wolves fans on Twitter. Read Jez's take on it tomorrow

@tim_spiers_Star - in a city where pay day lenders are plunging people into huge debts I'm devastated Wolves have chosen them as new sponsor

With a couple of "who the fuck are they" thrown in.

I think the club should do a Barca and have a sponsorless shirt option (barca used to do it, no idea if that is still happening).

Even they sold out a while back, originally went charitable with Unicef but have since descended into proper sponsors.

Barcelona did not have shirt sponsorship until a few years back when they agreed to have UNICEF on their shirts. I think their current deal with Qatar Airways is the first time they have received money for having a companies name on their shirts.

So, seeing as we've decided to fuck off being a family club with this sponsor, can we have the liquidator back? :run:
