General Wolves News

They've had their name plastered all over a stand since 2009, so I'm not terribly surprised or upset.

Barcelona did not have shirt sponsorship until a few years back when they agreed to have UNICEF on their shirts. I think their current deal with Qatar Airways is the first time they have received money for having a companies name on their shirts.
When they put Unicef on the shirt you had a choice to have it with or without. When I purchased by shirt they printed the sponsor on in the club shop

The stand and the shirt are so vastly different though. If you offered me the choice between not having these as a sponsor or a player (even a decent player) paid for by this money, I wouldn't want the player. I would happily sign a petition.

Whilst not something that I get involved in, I dislike the amount of gambling links and advertising surrounding football in particular. I am related to someone who had a very serious gambling issue that they are constantly fighting against, and so they have pretty much had to give up watching televised football.

For me places like the money shop are much worse than bookies.

I think it's classless, tacky and very Moxey, but I cannot summon the energy to be outraged at anything at Wolves any more this season

This is annoyingly different, the stand is easily ignored. This sponsor now shares a shirt with our club badge. I emailed the community info email address, if nothing else it made me a tiny bit better. It's such a long deal and I have been opposed to these sort of businesses in the past, they prey on the vulnerable and offer little to no long term help to those that most need it.

Only another 99,955 and they'll have to discuss it in Parliament.

Do I want Wolves associated with this sort of "product"? Not really, but I'm not going to get worked up with faux indignation either. Would people complain if the new sponsor was say Marstons. Just like pay day loans, in moderation and used sensibly alcohol doesn't have to destroy a life (bit of an over done comparison I know).

I understand the point you are going for, but we have drink aware and a whole host of charities and support set up to help those harmed by alcohol, including a vast amount of nhs money. Loads of stuff is harmful for you, for the vast majority of people payday lenders are the complete opposite of what they need, very few people use them once, and the majority of those that use them feel they have no other choice due to a lack of help from elsewhere.

Wolves won't rip up a 3 year deal.

Its a simple "protest" to do. Simply don't buy the kits as massively reduced sales will have more of an impact than a Petition with things such a s"Fuck Money Shop" written on it.

Also wont do any harm to sign a petition. Literally takes 5 seconds.

Oh I'd agree payday lending is pernicious and self perpetuating exploitation of the poor or the foolish. The ONLY defence of it is that it's preferable to loan sharks that desperate people sometimes resort to. But plenty of more reputable businesses exploit people weaknesses or have questionable business ethics.
To my mind though, football fans will be raising petitions against many sponsorships every season if this is going to be consistent.

Agreed. Rather than a petition, why don't people just refuse to buy replica kits.

The key difference for me is not everybody who uses alcohol becomes dependant but everybody who resorts to payday loans is in dire straits. Nobody willingly goes to these parasites. The thing that irks me most is they haven't paid us for sponsorship they've paid us for legitimacy and their own ends. Next up, a half time speech off Britain First.
