General Wolves News

Hobbs was on five live just after 8.

We interviewed four people. Says been blown away by O’Neil since he’s come in, “performances have been really good” (hmm). Kinda says we had to be £85m in profit but can’t tell if he’s just repeating what O’Neil said last week.

Big change in strategy across football side of things as well I.E. style of play but also shift in strategy on signing players (basically not pricks like Guedes who don’t want to be here). Not trying to alienate gestifute but want more balance.

I don’t mind him tbf. He’s pretty open and honest.

Sounds like the plan is a good one to me. Will require steady nerves and consistently good scouting (and a bit of luck), though.

Down to Hobbs and co. to execute. Jury’s still out on GO but the player side I feel optimistic about.

I thought he was chatting shite tbh.

Still trying to paint it that the squad wasn't ready and it's still preseason for GoN when that's bullshit and we all know it.

He speaks well but I think most of it is rubbish.

On the rest of it.

As per with Hobbs he speaks well and I don't think he tries to hide anything from us, which is refreshing. He will of course stick up for GO as he is his choice. It is a fair point he came in right at the start of the season but don't agree he has essentially now finished his pre-season though.
He was right on the performances but I am not sure if he knew it but he highlighted the reason why we lost the games v Brighton and Liverpool. Its great starting well but games are 90 mins (Well 100 now) and mistakes were made from the bench.

Fair comments on the Mendes link up I thought.

He at least answered the questions rather than taking the politicians stance a lot take and answer questions they weren't asked.

Glad we have now settled on needing an 85m surplus this summer. The clever bods on here can now make sense of that and what it means going forward. Thought one of the people involved in the interview would have asked a further question on that but I guess it was a soft touch interview.

I doubt he would have agreed to the interview if City had done what we expected on Saturday though

I like matt hobbz more after this interview, than i did when he freed gomez.
It was a refreshing listen, and my personal half full glass had a bit of top up.

He's gone all in on GON so he'll live or die by that, interesting that Lop said he'd stay till they found someone so he didn't need particularly to go so soon for Gaz.
Anyway he's convinced me, I'm all in on the O'Neil train😉

Pre-season is a poor way of describing what has gone on and GON and Hobbs have both been guilty of trotting out this line, with GON mentioning the fitness issue too. If a club appoints a manger in the middle of the season do they expect an 8 week transitional period and call it a pre-season and in a way excuse results? I don't think so as managerial changes are normally made to try and improve things.

You've obviously never heard of the "8 week post-appointment bounce"

I wonder how long we could have dragged that out with JL

"Yeah, I know its March but everyone has been shit so far. So can't replace you just yet. Speaking with Warnock next week, so fingers crossed"

Till a decent job came up I suppose.

I'd have thought the best thing that both he and GON could say right now is precisely nothing.

Maybe they have no choice in the timing of interviews (though it's hard to really imagine them popping up on the radio so quickly after a defeat), maybe they have good points to make, but it would be much more powerful to answer the critics with continued results and performances like Saturday. Just a bit unseemly to me. If 6 matches is too soon to be asking questions of the leadership then 1 is a bit prompt to be proclaiming ourselves the next Brighton.

I want nothing more than for them to produce continued results and performances like Saturday by the way, in case for some weird reason folk think I like us being sht.

Yes I had similar thoughts, would they have conducted those interviews had we lost on Saturday?

I doubt it.

I don't mind the timing, if we hadn't have won he wouldn't have been invited, it just felt a bit too smug and self assured to me. Dialed down elements of Shi and Vinny

To be fair though, the request for the interview was only probably made because we beat City. That doesn't happen and Hobbs is sat watching our U21's in peace last night.

We do have an obligation to put people forward when companies who pay for PL football make a request. It was a fairly gentle interview and of course he was going to put a positive spin on GO. Would be wholly unprofessional for him to do anything else.
He did lay the foundations should it go tits up "some people interview well" "Not every move in football works out" "as every club will have, we have a list of managers we monitor should things go wrong" (or something similar)
