General Wolves News

I don't think people will disagree with you there.

But Matt Doherty isn't even a 4/10 Premier League RB on his very best day, is he.

We've been so shit in an attacking sense for so long that it's almost impossible to untangle what failings are down to individual players and what is down to us just being crap as a unit.

Nelson feels like he should be able to contribute going forward.

He gets there fine enough, and he's obviously not a shit footballer.

But he continually bottles putting a cross in, when he does it's a wank low ball to the near stick that anyone could clear in their sleep, and I don't think I've seen him have 10 shots in 3 years.

Yep, that's where it gets tough; when Nelson gets the ball in good positions on the right flank the outcome is always one of just three(!) actions: daisy cutter to the top of the 18, check down to support, or dribble infield and check down (but to a CM this time). I won't hold it against him if he checks back to a CB when pressed; at least the opposition force him into that.

Surely Nelson has more ideas going on in his noggin than just that? Which leads me to believe he's being coached specifically into those three actions and to avoid others. But that's just as baffling a situation.

Tough one, but he'll always get a pass from me because I just fancy him too much. Damn cuties out here blinding me from reason and logic.

Doherty can't cross for shit either (he's genuine Blades/Rankine levels if he tries it from deep) but Nuno mitigated that by having him drive inside.

I don't think we've been well coached for quite a long time. Lage, his geek brother and his circus of clowns mostly at fault there.

Probably not no which again has to question our recruitment over the last few years.
Remember when Doc was here and was good (in that very limited, narrow sense) we had absolutely zero back up for him. We're quite odd sometimes.

If it's bring coached he's on his 5th manager coaching it
Can't counter this, really. Can only say that as he's been our best FB defensively since Jonny got old, we're likely asking him to do less that might leave him out of position.

It feels like every manager has seen Semedo as the "keep possession" option, where Bueno and RAN are actually allowed to drive into the box with a little more freedom. That's fine if you get consistent output from the other fullback, but we don't.

I kind of agree with Alan that it is impossible to nail down an individual and say he's consistently the problem because they're ALL liable to make a balls up at least once or twice in a game and now as a UNIT they don't function at all. We've never looked organised since Lage binned Coady. (Yes I know most didn't want Coady in a back four). Personally I'd sooner see Coady in a back four than Kilman. Kilman offers less as a skipper than he does as a defender. If anything Dawson should be captain.
Besides which I don't see why we have to play with four at the back for every game. Surely professional footballers can adapt to different formations from game to game. They should be able to do it during a game if required.
Apologies if I'm just rambling and going over old ground with Coady, (inc. Boly and Saiss).
Ridiculous position we find ourselves in. Just hope Santiago and Toti can make a difference if and when they are selected.

Oskar, Benno, Marshall, Graham and Cav (did Ronan play their once as well?)

RWB Hall of Fame.

So much is overblown about Coady as the on field captain. Waving your arms around and clapping after we conceded was not organising. He was tremendous off the field and obviously respected by his teammates, but not a modern day Bobby Moore on it in any sense

I just candy get my head round the fact kilman is captain, he's average at best and has the personality of a gold fish.

I've never seen him smile, get pumped up or anything other than act like a school prefect, who nobody listens to.

Disagree (not about the waving the arms after we'd conceded though). We looked much calmer with the ball for a start, secondly we were generally in a line and at a suitable depth. Opinions I suppose (or impressions).

Ronan came on at RWB for extra time vs Bristol Rovers in the League Cup.

It was er, something.

We played much deeper, the higher line is tactical. None of this obviously is advocating captain fantastic, who neither leads vocally or by example. Although he whinged a bit too much I thought Neves was a perfectly fine captain last year

I mean honestly, how much does it even mean anymore?

Captains are made, not chosen. The leaders within the squad are who they will be. The problem with Max is his ability to play football, not so much the extra strip of cloth on his bicep, IMO.

Yes there was a necessity to play deeper as we were slow and getting turned was likely besides we played more 'in the break'. Neves was a worthy captain. Kilman ain't.

Agree. But being captain makes them harder to drop or more drama than needed when you do.

Some truth in that particularly with football. But body language does count and rub off on others. Plus tactically reinforcing the manager/coach's ideas on the pitch 😞
