General Wolves News

We needed 3 new starting defenders and a new keeper, we maybe signed 1.

I'd be amazed if Kilman gets dropped, especially as he wasn't directly to blame for any of the goals yesterday.

He doesn't *do* anything. Always a yard off, meek, slow, the complete opposite of commanding.

Meantime Boly is doing great at Forest now he's fit. A thousand times the defender Kilman will ever be.

BTW The season ticket bonus has been paid out to season ticket holders, I've got 30 nicker.
Surprised there's not an tickbox option to donate it back to the club to pool together and pay off GoN.

I never mentioned this at the time as I thought it was just the usual Chinese whispers bollocks
I always meet up with an old mate before the match and he told me before the Brighton game that a mate of his had been talking to Bully, no less, who’d told him that Everton would be taken to the cleaners in October and docked a shit load of points.
Whether there’s any credence to it, who knows.

All to blame for me. Sarabia follows Eze but doesn’t block the pass through the lines. Semedo is tucked in but doesn’t react to Sarabia pressing and leaves the space and then he invites the cross. Centre backs are both a yard out of position or too slow and bang.
Are we tucking Semedo in to cover for Dawson's lack of pace?

Genuine question as it's an area exploited time and time again. Brighton have done it the last two games at Molinex to such an extent that Mitoma and their Left Back have looked like world beaters. Any PL player given that much space will look good. Soloman at Fulham was another that made Semedo look a chump without having to actually do too much.

P.S. He's also rarely helped out by the player in front of him.

I’d consider bringing Jonny back, both full backs are guaranteed a fuck up at least once a game. Jonny RB, Bueno LB. Bring Toti and S Bueno in.
To be honest, I wouldn’t be against giving Doc a start - and I say that fully knowing what the general opinion of him is like on here.

Doc is about as defensively capable as Semedo but less likely to do one monumental fuck off per match, but he actually offers something offensively.

People will (naturally) scoff at the idea of playing Doc in a back 4, but I’ve also seen enough of Semedo to know what he does/doesn’t offer.

I’d also be delighted if Kilman got binned off, but we all know that isn’t happening.

Changing the whole back four is not something that will happen, but Doc, Jonny, Hugo, Santi and Toti must all be wondering how they are not getting in this side.
Not one of the four had anything like a decent game yesterday and any team with any pace/movement (see Brighton and Celtic in pre-season) make it inevitable that we'll concede way too often.

Scoff

Semedo is good defensively when he’s not being a clumsy oaf.

The yellow card he got is unfortunate in isolation (ignoring the fact it’s not a yellow as the player is not in a dangerous position going away from goal, refs don’t understand the game though and just see “attacking third foul, in behind = YC”), but he does it all the fucking time being bloody clumsy.

Then there’s the switching off (which all players do) and being weak as piss in the air. But ignoring that… he’s generally solid.

Not sure I trust Jonny to start in the PL so Doc is the only alternative.

Moot discussion as clearly Semedo won’t be dropped.
There's an argument to be made, although I wouldn't do it myself, about going to a back 5 and Doherty playing as a WB, but not as a FB. That being a debate is again down to us not having a 2 we can trust, same old same old

I think it suits every one of the back 4 accept Semedo (insert Doc here) and can get more out of Sarabia and Neto. Sasa as the #9 and then Cunha would have to play in one of the #10s ahead of the other two.

It doesn’t have to be a negative formation.

Hey! I’d just suggested we start Doc. I don’t want banning so wasn’t about to throw in the suggestion of a back 5 too!

But it has been when we've used it for ages now, and it doesn't stop us conceding either.

Just smacks of people wishing it were 2019 again.

I mean we’ve been shit in an attacking sense full stop for what seems like forever. We were even shit (average) when we were good if someone Parked the bus.

It doesn't have to be a negative formation obviously, we've seen first hand how exciting a team playing a back 5 and a low block can be, but it would be under O'Neil. He's already put the shackles on our front 4 under the guise of being more 'balanced', any shift to a back 3 now would be purely to have an extra defender and limit the amount of space we have to defend as individuals, how that formation worked in an attacking sense would be an afterthought.
