General Wolves News

Not ideal, means he's away until the Thursday with a lunchtime Saturday kick off. Means we will see one of the PL's worst centre half pairings again
I'm interested in The Dude's post on the other thread and thinking, hey, maybe I'm just too negative. So...

On the plus side: cracking steak for him next weekend followed by some shotgun altitude training (FOC to Jeff) in a gangland warzone Tues. Beezer!

Well Kilman sure as shit doesn't deserve the shirt at this point.

Sorry EP, Max played a major role in all 3 for me. Others at fault as well as there always is.
Yeah the term passive was very apt for Kilman yesterday.

However on the first one I'd say Semedo and Dawson were the two most the blame, Semedo particularly, enabling that cross. Kilman is then trying to correct Dawson's lack of awareness, and fails.

2nd one, again Kilman is trying to cover for other's positional mistakes and didn't manage it.

3rd one was poor, he's too far away from Edouard, makes it too easy for him to get a shit off.

I wouldn't say Kilman made mistakes on the goals as such, but he didn't do enough to stop them happening in each instance. He could have prevented them with more awareness/taking responsibility.

😂 did he get the shit off, before or after he got the shot off 🤣
sorry couldn't resist

Well, except the first one that is.
Go on?

Semedo allowed the cross to come in easily, Dawson is RCB and Eduaord attacks the front post, Dawson's area, Dawson wasn't aware of that and didn't intercept.

Kilman should perhaps have been aware that Dawson wasn't going to get there and done more, but he's 3rd in the list of blame there.

Well this is the thing with him, isn't it. And it's what makes rejecting Napoli's bid all the more infuriating.

Kilman doesn't make defensive stops he "shouldn't", and he's also good for at least one genuine fuck up a match; IE, getting something very basic very wrong. Even on CP's third, yes it's a very difficult position for a CB to be in, but he never gets closer than a yard to Eduoard, and that may as well be the width of Siberia for a footballer at this level. Give Haaland a tenth of that space and he'll bag half a dozen. Then he needlessly goes to ground, at which point he's taken himself out of the game completely.

I really, really wanted Max to come good. I think the talent and physical tools are there. Unfortunately it's desperately clear that the ask is too great for him right now, and there aren't any signs of that changing.

Surely its instinct not to let a man get in front of you at the near post, jeez even i was taught that as a youngster

1st - Kilman allows his man to get across him and score easily. Semedo is tucked in as per tactical shape all game and Dawson is flatfooted (it's his job to cover that near post).

2nd - Kilman fails to challenge the striker for the ball in the air when he could see the ball coming straight at him. This is the first job for a CB

3rd - Kilman is all at sea as Edoard sits him down and rolls the ball in the net. Pathetic defending.

He was woeful yesterday on all the goals.

Second one is the worst for me because he does it time and time again. Loses sight of Mateta and then runs at him when the ball is played but never gets close enough which leaves him in no mans land. Stays where he is and the flick on goes straight to him, react quicker and challenge Mateta, the flick on is much more difficult or he possibly wins the ball.

I thought the build up to the first was more on Sarabia than Semedo. As Johnny says, Semedo was tucked in due to tactical instruction, not a fault in his own positioning.

Then Dawson is just nowhere to be seen when the cross comes in.

The 2nd one was an awful mess, at least with the 1st it could be argued it was good play from Palace, the second was just a scrappy, crappy goal where probably 4 of our players could and should have done better.

Yeah I thought that one summed him up to be honest.

The back four is definitely a concern. We’ve made Kilman captain for whatever reason and our left backs are very inconsistent. Semedo is fairly solid but nothing special and we can’t rely on Dawson forever.

In fact, I think it’s a bigger issue than offensively tbf. We’ve created more in these four games than I expected. Finishing/decision making still an issue of course

We would at least be a pain in the ass to break down if we could just keep our heads for a whole match at a time.

So, so often we concede and the immediate thought is "Christ, we didn't even make them work for that".

I’d consider bringing Jonny back, both full backs are guaranteed a fuck up at least once a game. Jonny RB, Bueno LB. Bring Toti and S Bueno in.

Changing the whole back 4 is a lot, particularly after a clean sheet in the previous game?

We didn't even do that after the 6-0 at Brighton did we?

Like this idea but I'd have Jonny on the left (because I'm still a Semedo stan).

All to blame for me. Sarabia follows Eze but doesn’t block the pass through the lines. Semedo is tucked in but doesn’t react to Sarabia pressing and leaves the space and then he invites the cross. Centre backs are both a yard out of position or too slow and bang.

Yeah he does it all the time, presses too late and doesn’t get close enough. Just leaves space behind him to exploit, no idea how any of our coaches haven’t spotted this.

Don’t think Semedo is fairly solid though he’s as inconsistent as the left backs.

Agree that defending is a bigger issue than attacking. Thought we created worse chances yesterday than the other 3 games yet scored 2. We can’t keep conceding really soft goals that are down to lack of basic defending.
