FA Cup: Wolves 2-1 Man Utd - Verdict thread

I'll trade any of you for the arseholes that stand next to me. One of them nearly set me on fire with that flare when Jiménez scored.

Can no one control Darlo after a few pints?

Rewatched most of the match last night. Loved it when Coady came out of defence to steal the ball away from Rashford, and then raked a stunning ball out to the left with the outside of his boot. Absolute class.

Moutinho is just an Energizer bunny. He just keeps going & going & going. Neves was brilliant next to him and although he and Moutinho get most of the plaudits, I thought Donk was fantastic as well. Having Donk in there just allows the other two to do their thing. Look at Jota's goal. Donk was the player heading the ball out from our own area to Neves - and who was stood on the penalty spot when the ball hit the back of the net at the other end of the pitch? Donk. I love the bloke.

It says a lot that Utd had to surround the referee, crying out for a penalty when the ball hit Jonny - and that their goalkeeper was their man of the match. I don't buy the "we had an off day" line. We outplayed them and deserved that victory twice over. It's just a shame we conceded at the end, because they didn't deserve it!

That was utterly pathetic. Smalling ran something 60 yards to get in the refs face. Ref should book any player that gets right in his face

Oh, and I loved Moutinho dinking the ball over Lingard's head, controlling it on his knee and then playing a lovely little ball through to Neves - cutting out another Utd player in the process. The game was full of little moments like that.

I guess they thought it was a banker after the pen they were rewarded v PSG a week ago!

Compare that to Jota getting booked for dissent at Bournemouth after the Mepham handball, he didn't really move from where he was and without knowing what he said, it didn't seem particularly vociferous (even though we had every right to go mental at that one).

Or indeed Jota getting booked vs Leicester for being kicked in the thigh.

Players will always show frustration or appeal. If Jota has called the ref something out of order, then fair enough but we have no clue. Going on the ref that day, he probably got booked for looking at him.

Never been a fan of players trying to control the ref. That was a proper flashback to SAF days at Utd where Neville, Keane etc would be right in the face of the ref.

I'm not sure if this happened but it looked from where I was - at one point they gave offside against us and then United took a free kick inside our half :S

Yep that did happen somehow.

Raul was flagged offside the ref just let them take it inside our half.

Who did Saiss shoulder barge in to, nearly putting them in the front row of the Steve Bull? That was quality as well. Honestly - there were so many 'moments'.

@JoaoMoutinho completed 7 key passes during #WOLMUN - the same as the entire Man United team!

Have watched it all back now. Even during the first 15 minutes where they have a lot of possession, they really never trouble us at all. At the time in the ground it seemed to go on forever!

Dendoncker has added so much to our midfield. He is so intelligent without the ball, the way he screened off passes into Pogba for much of the game was brilliant. And his running outside of Neves (which Joao does on the other side) helps so much.

No coincidence that Doc's form (bar City away) has been much better and more consistent since Donck came into the team.

The offside rule! There’s another new piece of confusion.
If a player is flagged offside, it’s not the position of where the player was standing when flagged, but the position when they touch the ball....I believe.

Very true. It suits him a lot better having a player inside him to link with I think (that he can then rotate with as they sometimes do). And defensively gives him more protection.

Every day is a school day
Offences and sanctions

If an offside offence occurs, the referee awards an indirect free kick where the offence occurred, including if it is in the player’s own half of the field of play.

Well that's confusing. How can an offside offence occur in your own half?

If you're standing offside when the ball is kicked, but then come back into your own half to collect? The offence occurs when you touch the ball, I presume.

Ah yes, quite right.
