Everton 0-1 Wolves: Verdict Thread

I think its slightly nuanced - Coady clearly isn't one of our best ever defenders as a player (Boly is head and shoulders a better defender), but as a captain and leader he's by far and away the best I've ever seen at Wolves. Its also fair to say that our current success probably wouldn't have happened without him - the sweeper role was essential to our style in Nuno's first three seasons, there is no one else who could have done that role as well as him.
I was about to say similar things. Hes made the absolute most of his footballing talent and made a position he hadn't really played in before his own.

I hope he stays at the club long after his playing days are over.

Remember when Denchman tried to be a cult legend... He was fucking crap...

Elokobi for me is a Wolves legend, always worked hard not the most naturally gifted but gave his all for the shirt..

'Cult heroes' are generally terrible at football. I don't find them amusing in the slightest if they're playing (invariably badly) for my team.

I'd say Jamie Smith was a good example of a decent cult hero type.

If you gave me the choice between Elokobi and Zubar, I know who I'm taking, even if they were both miles from Prem level.

I remember when we used to sub Mo Camara, you could still find him running down the M6/M1 the next day..

I guess legend means different things to different people. For me the criteria is, has to be here at least 4 seasons and needs to be at least on the bench for our greatest side or be high up in the club record for appearances (not a made up PL era one) and have retired.
From my Wolves supporting life I think there's only really Hibbitt, Richards, Parkin, Palmer, McAlle and Bull that qualify thus far. All in the Top 10 appearance makers even though most wouldn't make our best side. Murray misses out as although he was here for well over 4 seasons he only really played in 2

Its a long while ago for many of you but Emlyn Hughes at Liverpool and then here was another who absolutely had a huge grin pretty much all the time and was a great ambassador for Liverpool , England and us. Similarities in the both ,infectious smiles for both him and Coady. They both appear in their own time to enjoy every moment of life and it rubbed off on those around them. No coincidence our team spirit is so good these days.
Fair enough seems like I'm in the minority on this one. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't trying to knock him, I think he's fantastic. To be honest it's nice to be even having the conversation on whether a current player qualifies as a legend, after some of the dross we've had playing for us relatively recently.
Looking at you Roger Johnson

It was a pity Hughes himself said that he was finished by the time we signed him. We gave him the only trophy he hadn't got at Liverpool so whilst he was grateful for that, he was honest enough to admit that his best days were behind him.

Waggy is a legend to me, my first football hero and not a bad player....had to have his testimonial organised by Robert Plant cos the club forgot or couldn't be bothered......there's 2 legends for you right there

Dave is already a legend. Anyone who can play at the level he did for so long with essentially a talent of being able to run alot deserves to be called a legend.
I imagine DW has a more colourful description.
