Euro 2020

For those saying Denmark will be a push around have to look at yourselves, they have played some brilliant football and England has not been tested yet..Im thinking 1-1 or 2-2 and overtime to decide the game..England has the better players all around but it wont be an easy game for sure

No one will underestimate Denmark especially in the England camp. Don’t agree with the comment England haven’t been tested. The game against Germany was very tight until we scored. The Scotland game provided a different challenge due to the motivation of the opponents.
Conversely Denmark are yet to beat top opponents yet either.

Denmark will be really tough mate, no one is saying its going to be easy.

We should win it, we rarely lose at Wembley
This team are like a club side
We have a ridiculous squad, the strength in depth is huge probably the best around especially forward positions.

No semi final will ever be easy and you have a good team with added motivation.
I expect an England win, but by no means an easy one, i think it will be 1-0

England are wolves in the championship season.

Denmark are Bristol city

Italy are Cardiff

The wins against Croatia and Germany were comfortable because of our game management and nous, not because the opposition was subpar.

I got these arguments three years ago, when we lost against the first high-quality team we came up against, but Croatia are recent World Cup finalists who came within a hair of putting Spain out, and Germany have a wealth of world-class talent, even if the current team setup isn't making the best of it. Of the semi-finalists, I'd say both Denmark and Spain had easier paths than us.

Had one of my Scottish friends on Facebook say something similar that England have had an easy ride so far. It’s just a very Churlish attitude to have.
Talk before was how tough Germany would be now England won oh Germany are crap.

Totally agree. Those that had the knives out for Southgate just don't like to admit they were wrong, so they have to move the goalposts.

It's pathetic to be honest.

A World Cup semi final and a Euro semi final, that's the best England manager performance since Ramsey.

Yep I criticised his team selection on these but admitted I was wrong. It’s a classic case tho of when one side starts to do well fans of the rivals will desperately try and find ways to degrade any success. It just comes across as being very bitter.

Southgate has such attacking talent at his disposal yet , in a number of games we have been tactically cautious. It has often not been pretty to watch but we are in the semi finals. Similar to Nunos wolves in the first two seasons. At times just pragmatic but got points and finished seventh. It is fine when it works and it has for Southgate. It didn’t this year for Nuno. I really hope England win it. It will keep my Scottish , Welsh and Irish friends quiet for a little while longer. The silence since Wales and Scotland went home has been deafening. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿😅😅

The bottom line is that we have been and will be favourites for every game we've played. That's not to belittle the achievement as we've gone out of many a tournament to sides we shouldn't, but you are only going to get a certain amount of credit for that.

Because of the way the draw has opened up in what is essentially a home tournament anything other than win would be failure from here imv.

Southgate's biggest success at both the Euro's and the World Cup has been to unify the players and bring about what seems to be a relaxed environment, which undoubtedly is paying off on the pitch.

Well, by suggesting anything but a win would be a failure, you are belittling the achievement.

For a very short while it would but then watch the excuse book being opened.
I put a comment in the football myths thread about 66 and how everyone outside England is adamant the ball never crossed the line and England were very lucky to win it.
But they happily forget the none foul given that lead to Germany equaliser in the last minute and a handball in the build up.

If we go out to Denmark, or lose to Spain or Italy in the final it will be disappointing, but it will have been a successful tournament, especially when you stack it up against previous Euros.

Gut instinct tells me it’ll be agonising on Wednesday night I hope I’m wrong.

Do the yellow cards still count
i.e. if Phillips or Rice get booked against Denmark, do they miss the final should we win?

Everyone and their dog have criticised Southgate for his tactics, selections and general pragmatic approach, (me included) but here we are in the semi's and hopefully will be in the final against a very good Italian side.
Whatever people's view on his style of play, personally think his man management has been superb, seems to keep everyone happy in the squad despite some massive ego's in there.

Surely success should be measured against opportunity, talent and expectation, not history?
Why? An extreme example here, but if Wolves got to a Champions League semi final, but lost, would the achievement of getting there be deemed as a failure?
