Coronavirus

Definitely seems to be varying attitudes in different places.

I haven't noticed any of the panic buying nonsense around here that plenty of you lot seem to have encountered, whether that's down to regional differences or just being in a smaller town up here there aren't as many people to flock together in one hit. When I checked earlier there was only 15 confirmed cases across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, I'm stuck pretty much bang on the border, with about 1.5m people living in the two counties combined, hell of an area those 1.5m people are spread across too which perhaps helps to dissipate the panic as much as it does the spread of infection.

I can confirm from my brother that the panic buying is the same is in Oz. He just had to drive nearly 100k into Brisbane for bog roll.

Why bog roll? This isn't dysentery.

Started in Oz didn’t it? Someone did some tracing and it went back to some random thing over there.

I have no idea, but no sign of it stopping. He had to drive at 4.30am his time to get some shit paper or it was the family using the local newspaper.

A lot of problems with bread shortages there as well, but that is less of a problem for him as his mother in law owns a bakery.

Who the fuck drives 100km for toilet roll ffs :icon_lol:

PHE documents now suggesting an 80% infection rate is expected and we could be looking at nearly 8m hospitalised over the next year.

Suppose completely different scale with oz but heard from very good source that suppliers in Ireland reckon they will get stuff to superrmarket shelves 3 times quicker then normal this week as there is no cunt on the roads.

I’m finding it quite hard to carry on at the moment, can’t think about anything else and everything I see/read is making me really fucking miserable.

It's fucking hard to get your head around.

There are some really clever people around who will work out how we beat this thing, be it strategy, virus, vaccination - the method doesn't matter, nothing drives human invention as much as need and we have a huge need right now. We'll figure out drugs which help and improve our techniques in dealing with this virus as we go through.

Steer clear of media & social media and enjoy time with your family. Turn your phone off occasionally if you need to, think about your family and how ace they are. You control what you think about so think about things that make you happy and appreciate them for what they are.

One day this will all be over, one day this thread will drift off the front page, one day we'll be talking about football again rather than a virus.

Mate try not to worry, we are all in this together, stick together and we will beat it, it sounds over the top but life always finds a way, like the other poster said, we will beat this because there are some very fucking clever people about and they’ll find a vaccine, it’s just shit in the meantime, if you need a smile think about Liverpool fans, that’s certainly making me laugh

The panic buying started in Oz a week ago.

Getting forgetful but....
These 28,000 deaths in 2015, did that virus have a name at all?
Did the news do daily death/hospitalised counts back then?
I should, but i cant recall a massive panic.

Kill off a load of old people with 'underlying health issues'.
Sounds a bit like euthanasia.

I think you're in for a quite a significant shock if you think this is going to kill as few as that.
