Coronavirus

UK Omicron tests show booster vaccine dose is key, offering 75% protection against symptomatic Covid

Is it unprotected against severe illness as well as symptomatic illness though, that's the key detail.

Just wanted to pop in and say I got the Pfizer booster Wednesday evening (got the Janssen dose first time around).

Everything seemed alright until about 16 hours later. From about noon yesterday to noon today I was absolutely miserable. Proper withdrawal from narcotics stuff (don't ask me how I know). But then the side effects went away as quickly as they'd appeared.

Not a fun time but worth it, obviously.

Gonna put Pfizer's statement about their booster "neutralizing" Omicron to the test quicklike.

It's a bold statement for certain. I just don't understand why I'm not eligible for one yet when people younger than me are getting them. That's by the by though.

Yeah I lucked out. Just the one pharmacy in my whole state had Pfizer available (rest were Moderna, a handful had the Janssen booster), and it was 20 minutes down the road from me.

No idea what the issue is there but suppose I shouldn't be surprised that the rollout of the boosters has had its own share of convoluted nonsense.

The modelling numbers don't look exactly promising.

So where do we think we’re going with football? It does seem a farce mask wearing at theatres/concerts when there are thousands crammed into concourses at every game.

Depends on the numbers I suppose, and we've already had one PL game called off due to COVID again. Personally I reckon we'll end up behind closed doors again after Xmas, it's already happening in some places in Europe.

The whole situation is full of contradictions. I had to wear a mask today to have my hair cut, yet went to the pub to watch the match afterwards and didn't

Bruno suggested restricted, but not empty crowds in his press conference yesterday which made me think he knows something

Like I said the other day, mask on to get into town on the bus, no mask in a packed pub, no mask sitting with 30k+ other people, but then mask back on for the bus journey home. You couldn't make it up.

Really? Didn't see that. Something will give in the next few weeks for definite.

Reduced capacity is probably the most sensible move on the face of things, IMO. Think Germany went to 50% this past week?

Guess it will have to be reduced capacity next season too? Going to cause havoc with season tickets.
