Coronavirus

Reduced capacity is probably the most sensible move on the face of things, IMO. Think Germany went to 50% this past week?

Either empty stadiums or reduced capacity depending on state, Bavaria has no fans allowed

If people would chill their grill's about it we'd likely end up in a similar spot with COVID as we currently are with influenza: annual jab, death toll in the tens of thousands, rinse and repeat.

With the anti-vaccination movement at its fever pitch, though, I'm not sure we even get to that.
I agree, I'm just not sure that forcing people into anything is ever going to end well.
Apologies for the long quote but:

Alfred North Whitehead
“The creation of the world — said Plato — is the victory of persuasion over force… Civilization is the maintenance of social order, by its own inherent persuasiveness as embodying the nobler alternative. The recourse to force, however unavoidable, is a disclosure of the failure of civilization, either in the general society or in a remnant of individuals…

“Now the intercourse between individuals and between social groups takes one of these two forms: force or persuasion. Commerce is the great example of intercourse by way of persuasion. War, slavery, and governmental compulsion exemplify the reign of force.”

As evidenced by already existing vaccination requirements for things such as higher education, that ship has sailed.

Also, Plato fucked young boys.

I have seen my mum twice in 2 years. Our family (my mum, my brother, my sister and me) haven't all been together in nearly 3. We have planned to meet in between Xmas and New Year. We aren't changing that whatever this fucking clownshow government says.

We're up to level 4, there's a lot of confusion that this means Tier 4, which is quite different.

The fat cunt is doing a presser at 8pm.

At what point will the scientists speak out that whatever measures are brought in are being very widely ignored as the message is coming from a hypocrite and a liar?

If they bring in extra restrictions for Christmas how many are going to follow them exactly given what has happened.

I'd like to think that I am mature, sensible & taken appropriate precautions :)

I will make my own decision and not going to be going mad, but I am seeing my family this time whatever.

Unfortunately I don't think Boris is so Trumpian as to elicit that sort of reaction from the community. Which is a shame as he's equally as stupid as Trump, just far less brash and riot-inciting.

The vaccines are out (and mostly available, at least in our countries). We can't stop people from seeing their families when everyone has the proverbial Ace of Spades at their beck and call.

More restrictions "not expected" tonight. They haven't even approved the last lot yet.

I have a feeling Omicron is going to catch us out, people won't follow any new guidelines / restrictions, I have a feeling the younger folk won't take up boosters, all with the background of a very high infection rate

See this goes back to the argument of reason not to do something as opposed to an excuse not to do something, as a chronic asthmatic I will do whatever I see fit to protect myself as I could die, but I will exorcise common sense, but I cannot understand the notion of not doing something because some other dick hasn't

I'm curious what's stopping younger folk getting them? Is that a UK phenomenon?

You could be right, I suppose. I'm certainly tired of it but at least my peers in my age group (late Millennial) seem to be sucking it up and getting the shot anyway.

Can't speak to the generations younger than mine but I would guess that they're no more "over it" than Millennials are.

I certainly seem to see much more vaccine / booster hesitatancy / anti-vaxx among my age group (early 40s).

I agree entirely but take a look on social media and there are a lot of people saying they're not doing anything he wants. As you say it gives an excuse not a reason. I got boosted asap and would urge other to do so if they aren't already but an awful lot of people are angry and lashing out against anything to do with Covid that restricts their ability to carry on doing exactly what they want and to hell with the consequences.

A little bit of thought would make folk realise that we need to do these things to have a chance of going back to "normal". Not doing them will have entirely the opposite effect.

Thought isn't a strong point with anti-maskers and anti-vaxxers!
