Coronavirus

holland/netherlands also rumoured to be re-introducing lockdown too.

Lots of Northern Europe recording record high cases.

So if countries are introducing lockdown when immunity is at its peak, what are their plans for next year? Try and vaccinate the entire population again with a likely lower uptake than this year and then lockdown harder next winter? Repeat ad infinitum

Cases, hospitilisations and ventilated patients been at a steady level for 4 months now.

Germany looks like it’s in a bit of shit with 150% more critically ill than here. France, Spain, Netherlands, Switzerland look like they are doing about the same as us but fudging their numbers. Belgium and Austria doing a lot worse than here too but also fudging their numbers.

I didn’t mean you were smug tbf, but the general feeling that we can ignore Covid as long as our friends and family aren’t dieing is weird.
It's what we (i.e. society) do with practically every other disease/condition/injustice/problem, to be fair.

The Netherlands going back into a partial lockdown...

The restrictions, due to be announced by the prime minister, Mark Rutte, on Friday evening and to last at least three weeks, include the closure of bars, restaurants and non-essential shops from 7pm, the public broadcaster NOS said.

Gatherings at home will be limited to a maximum of four people, all sporting events will be held behind closed doors, and home working will be strongly encouraged, the broadcaster said, although schools, theatres and cinemas should remain open.

Leave the biggest causes open and close the ones that have minimal effect. Genius

Is that a curfew or closure as of 7pm. Because if it’s a curfew then that makes sense as we know Covid only comes out at night.

Based on personal experience, we have 2 people in this house with it, myself and my better half, we know at least 3 others who have it currently. Neither of us feel particularly bad, had a couple of rough days with a temperature and I've woken up with a headache for almost a week, today being the first day without. The worst effect for me has been the loss of taste, food and more importantly beer, tastes boring and bland, which is annoying. We are both double jabbed, which probably alleviates the worst of the symptoms, I can well imagine prior to the vaccine this would have been far more unpleasant.

Thank you for passing on your experiences. Mate at work had it weeks ago and his smell is still borked so I really hope you get your beer taste back soon.

Good to know you're coming out of it. Couple of my mates had it 3-4 weeks ago, both lost their sense of taste but it came back fully after a few weeks. Both had symptoms of a bad cold so were thankful they were double jabbed as one had a heart attack 5 years ago and the other had prostate cancer 2 years ago plus a minor stroke earlier this year.

step-daughter had it a couple of months ago. she felt pretty ill for a week, and still hadn't recovered her sense of taste or smell 6 weeks later.

97% publicly funded
Seems fair enough to me for them to recover some money now, they're the only ones who've given it away up till now and will continue to give it to poorer countries in the future.
As for being publicly funded, well we've had the benefit of that

That kind of joined up thinking doesn’t fit the communist narrative.
