Coronavirus

It's maybe a mark of how low the bar has been set. I mean look at Call Me Dave, Gideon, Cruella, Truss, Raab, Gavvy Gav, IDS, Priti Vacant, Hunt, Davis, Shapps, Leadsom, McVile, Grayling, Lansley, Rees-Mogg...fucking hell. These people have been at the heart of government for a decade collectively and they're all bloody awful. I'm not even talking about sideshow freaks like Baker, Francois, Bone, Redwood and Cash, these are the decision makers. And he's stood next to Fat Al who can barely splutter a coherent sentence.

Just to hear someone who can concisely set out an argument and doesn't actively try to be a sociopathic cunt is a novelty.

"They are declaring martial law tomorrow, I heard it from 2 military friends in DC."

"My politician friends say they have proof it is the Chinese getting revenge for trumps tariffs."

"My son works for Blackwater and they are guarding several facilities containing over a hundred thousand masks and hazmat suits."

These are otherwise intelligent people coming out with this crap. There is no conspiracy theory too stupid for Texans to believe.

It isn't but I presume that's not the plan. The designs would already be in existence and I don't think patents will be infringed and if they are I'm sure the companies will take the resulting royalty payments on offer.

You could quite easily get metal bashers to make the bits that are needed as most things are CNC/ laser cut so they're not doing anything different.

You'd be amazed at the issues you get with CNC, our machine shop that supplies one part to us (and has done for several years now) managed to fuck up a load of work introducing new Okumas to the cell. We went from two to five and had so many problems it was unreal. You'd like to think this stuff is plug and play to the experts but it rarely turns out that way.

Plastic injection moulding machines can produce those parts by the thousand although tooling times will be somwehwat problematic, but make 10 sets of tools in 10 manufacturers and you could easily knock out tend of thousands of parts in a week.

we produce our own plastics to medical grade in this country and we're very good at it. It actually plays to our strengths as long as middle management are bypassed as they are undoubtedly a huge problem in most places.

Can't comment on injection moulding as I've never had anything to do with it but the one problem I could see would be the uptick in production of electronic PCBs and cabling. Companies who have employees and/or contractors who are J-STD trained will be pretty limited and the extra demand would be hard to meet unless other Class 3 products were drastically scaled back. Given that these products are only mostly used in production of medical, military or top tier end users (Formula 1 for example) that would be pretty difficult to accommodate. Regular solderers and wiremen wouldn't have the required level of training to do it.

Assembly lines are the tough bit and I think they'd have to be done by hand I would think and that's what final production plants do extremely well (Booz has more knowledge on control units than me and Viz on the software).

The toughest part there would be line integration. I don't know if companies who assemble medical equipment have to meet the same sort of criteria that we do but I'd think at a minimum any line would have to be completely ESD and FOD compliant and unless that's already in place then it would cost a fortune to get to that state, and it wouldn't be quick. Yes you can rip out existing lines and transform areas in very impressive times these days if you already have compliant areas (provided you have a quality Works Engineering department and/or groups of contractors) but the product integration and training would take ages.

New Legislation will give Police the powers to detain and isolate those they feel are a threat to public health. That scares the shit out of me ..

So 1 in every 1000 of the UK population may be infected already and apparently one person will pass it on to 2.5 other people. By my reckoning (And I'm shit at maths) the mother of all shit storms is due to hit just after mid April through to mid May. Supermarkets will become germ central.

The National Trust is trying to keep open for free access to its parks and gardens, not houses, shops or cafes obviously

and apparently one person will pass it on to 2.5 other people.

So does that mean if I see 2 people I then need to avoid Jinky?

(sorry Jinky, I made a promise not to make these jokes but these are serious times, so I feel you should let this one pass for the sake of the Nation's mental well being as we need to smile every now and again)

i think a few on here were highlighting those risks which is why (imo) the original containment phase should have been something more than a PR "do nothing" exercise. a better description would be that we allowed an infection stage to happen relatively unchecked. a proper containment phase sounds like the time to be mobilising supply lines (medical, food etc), getting contact info from originating sources, organising contingencies particularly for extra beds/front line medical staff and mitigations etc. i can appreciate governments can get accused of over-reacting from time to time but where public health is concerned, on issues like this i think that's what they should have been doing.

i totally hope your maths is shit and it won't be as bad but you don't typically run policy on hope.

What we are doing now (or should be doing) is getting that 2.5 down to below 1. Have a read of the Imperial paper linked above - it has details on how we can get r reduced and the effects if we do.

I think runny nose is a symptom

Fever seems to be the most consistent indicator but when 50-75% of infected people aren't showing any symptoms who the fuck knows.

If China are managing coronavirus they need to start mass producing all the shit we need to deal with it, ventilators, test kits, PPE etc

Honestly Andy if you don't know the symptoms don't post. It's the type of rubbish that gets picked up on and confuses people.

A runny nose is NOT a symptom on the NHS website.

"Business Secretary Alok Sharma says the Housing Secretary will be making a statement shortly about how to protect millions of renters in the UK that could be affected by coronavirus"

A NEW persistent cough,
Shortness of breath,
Fever,

NHS 111 are telling people if they have a runny nose, phlegm etc then it is not coronavirus. The 3 listed are the symptoms to look for

This is helpful

That’s why I’m positive Cass had this the weekend of the Spurs away game at the end of February, those were the exact same symptoms she had as well as general lethargy. Called 111 but they were pretty unconcerned and five days later she was right as rain.

Very much agree with you mate.
It is certainly interesting times!

I see Toyota will be closing it's facilities in the UK along with BMW
As a tier 1 supplier to both in the USA, I just wonder if they will do the same stateside...

Filming of Eastenders is suspended. I don't watch it so no big issues there except that if this a sign of things to come (Line of Duty was also stopped yesterday) then what new things will we be looking at in a few months time?
