Coronavirus

Just had to pop into Wolves City Centre, didn't want to do it but after 2 days of failing to get through on the phone to the Halifax and no replies from our Mortgage advisor had no choice (advisor is let off though as apparently she is very ill). Seems about as busy as I would expect at 12pm on a Wednesday. So, if folk aren't generally following the request the full proper lock down won't be far away.

I can’t see any way the schools can stay open beyond Friday. Micro has been reduced to every other day this week because they simply haven’t got the fit staff to run a five day school week.

Honestly Andy if you don't know the symptoms don't post. It's the type of rubbish that gets picked up on and confuses people.

A runny nose is NOT a symptom on the NHS website.

It's far from categoric, it's possibly a symptom

Having a runny nose does not mean you don't have coronavirus

Schools in Scotland and Wales closing from Friday. So would expect those in England to do the same

You would imagine so. No guarantee they will open again after Easter either. Plays havoc with Mini due to take A levels in May.

Saw a guy in Sainsbury's have a MASSIVE paddy because he couldn't buy 4 big bags of porridge oats. He basically threw the fourth back in the direction of the cereal aisle and got escorted out, sans shopping.

It was you wasn"t it. This is the story of your morning...

It’s utterly baffling. People have been panic buying for a few weeks now, yet the next week they can still go out and buy more stuff...

So you can clearly see you don’t need to panic buy. I haven’t been in any supermarkets, we do our shopping online. There’s been a few things we haven’t been able to get but it’s not and issue, I will literally just eat something else. I’m not sure I’ve met any of these “panic buyers” so I can’t even ask what’s wrong with them.

Yeah, no. There is hardly any truly flushable wipe certified by WRc - kudos if you have them as they are pretty much like rocking horse poo. If they are not on this list don't put them down the toilet (or do, if you really must - I make quite a lot of money out of it, but I'd rather not).

Or even better, leave baby wipes for the babies?
Indeed. They might be "flushable", but they're not bio-degradable. Wipes should notbe flushed down the toilet.

States of Jersey closing all schools after the end of this week.

Got an directive from HQ Air Cadets yesterday stopping all "face to face" Cadet activities so a complete stand down and no Squadron is to remain open. Beat the schools as my Squadron was going to close as soon as the schools did

It’s obvious

Part one - hmm, I might need to self isolate for a fortnight. That’s quite a bit of shit. I had better get a spare pack of bog roll in as it could be completely unsanitary. Several shoppers all have the same thought. Shelf starts to empty.

Part two - shoppers on their normal shop see the shelf beginning to empty. Fucking hell, I can’t stop myself needing a shit and there is clearly a supply issue. I am buying EXTRA BOG ROLL. The shelf is completely emptied.

Part three - somebody takes a snap of the empty shelf and bungs it on social media with the tag that panic buying is taking place. Readers then think ‘hang on, I am getting a bit low, and let’s face it I can’t stop it if I need a shit’

Part four - new delivery comes in. Those readers of the post about panic buying empty the shelf by buying biblical amounts. Rinse and repeat.

DW's favourite Gavster to make a statement about schools at 5pm.

i think a few on here were highlighting those risks which is why (imo) the original containment phase should have been something more than a PR "do nothing" exercise. a better description would be that we allowed an infection stage to happen relatively unchecked. a proper containment phase sounds like the time to be mobilising supply lines (medical, food etc), getting contact info from originating sources, organising contingencies particularly for extra beds/front line medical staff and mitigations etc. i can appreciate governments can get accused of over-reacting from time to time but where public health is concerned, on issues like this i think that's what they should have been doing.

i totally hope your maths is shit and it won't be as bad but you don't typically run policy on hope.

Me too. No doubt this will pass but I reserve my right to have a downer (in general)

I would have seen the herd mentality as productive IF you successfully isolated the vulnerable. That appears to be impossible given the public backlash. They are merely switching the socialisation of the pub to the confines of the supermarket aisles. Totally get the philosophy of flattening the curve but I see that more entwined in isolating the vulnerable and letting nature take it's course with the rest. The more people with immunity the better but I am quite certain many people have already had this virus without knowing.

As for the cash available from the 'chance' I wonder how this is all brokered as any government effort in the past to support business has seen a hefty proportion swallowed up by 'admin costs'. They will want to know past receipts future expected receipts blah blah blah, you'll need a business bank account and various other intricacies.

All recreational cricket cancelled until further notice.

Plus you've missed off the weapons grade cunts who stocked up just so they could flog them on eBay/Facebook at inflated prices.

I'm in a fortunate position in that I have a number of local suppliers - butchers, greengrocers, polish store etc. that are all still open and stocked as (pretty much) normal and now that I am confined to home for work it's quite nice to get out and get a few days shopping.

Clearly I'm in a fortunate position but most of the stores outside of the supermarkets seem fine - when I went to Lidl on Monday the shelves were carnage and it put me off going there too much more!
