Coronavirus

3 months rent free here in staffs too. The government are a little slow but they're not doing as terrible a job as this board would have you believe.

It was more a question of communication, Thursday and Monday's pressers were very poor. Sloppy and underprepared with messages that often didn't make sense or contradicted each other.

Today has been much better because they have the right man delivering the message. Look at the contrast between the two most senior figures in Government up there, it's like picking between a Premier League player and some Isthmian League jobber.

Sunak is very assured and it's nice to hear them say that ideology potentially goes out of the window to get through this crisis.

Need to start a dialogue with our landlord - we have reserves, but they are not unlimited & this is our biggest expense (if we can't open a lot of the other costs don't get incurred anyway). Am fortunate that we have no paid staff, but against that have had to tell half of our volunteers not to come in due to age or health conditions/caring for others who have.

Retooling a production line from engines to ventilators for example? That not easy by any means whatsoever.

It isn't but I presume that's not the plan. The designs would already be in existence and I don't think patents will be infringed and if they are I'm sure the companies will take the resulting royalty payments on offer.

You could quite easily get metal bashers to make the bits that are needed as most things are CNC/ laser cut so they're not doing anything different.

Plastic injection moulding machines can produce those parts by the thousand although tooling times will be somwehwat problematic, but make 10 sets of tools in 10 manufacturers and you could easily knock out tend of thousands of parts in a week.

we produce our own plastics to medical grade in this country and we're very good at it. It actually plays to our strengths as long as middle management are bypassed as they are undoubtedly a huge problem in most places.

Assembly lines are the tough bit and I think they'd have to be done by hand I would think and that's what final production plants do extremely well (Booz has more knowledge on control units than me and Viz on the software).

Wouldn't hold my breath on it, but I would hope that rigid ideology is chucked in terms of economics for the rest of my lifetime at least, it's a genuine scandal what has happened in this country over the last decade. One of the richest economies in the world and people having to resort to charity for food FFS.

I like the way Sunak comes across, he seems at this point to be the kind of Tory with whom I'll fundamentally disagree overall but I can also listen to and respect.

In the grand scheme of things though, none of this today helps me personally and there are millions in the same boat. And I'm lucky in as much as I have no rent or mortgage, however I can't eat house deeds.

I thought he would just be a yes man but he was very accomplished and statsmanlike. As DW says better than his boss and weirdo adviser.

I get the impression he is subtly proving himself for the top job at some point in the future, which is fine, as long as he delivers what we need at the moment.

Credit where it's due, a lot of encouragement in that presser. Hopefully the mortgage holidays will work their way down to us private renters though, else I'm fucked if we go on reduced hours at work

Didnt i hear that this virus produces no flem?, a dry cough but not a full on, old man bringing up flob spitting in the gutter thingymajig.

That's what I thought, however 38%of cases have severe Mucus

Does seem to be the case that one assumption from the original modelling - that the actual mortality rate is probably more in the 0.6-1.0% range rather than 2-3% as had originally been thought in China - is correct. Mass tests in Italy over the weekend have found that as many as 75% of carriers are completely asymptomatic. Would also indicate that it could well have spread from China earlier than originally thought.

Normal flu is only 1%
As I said there is something we are not being told

Spain still have not given any indication on what they are doing, they do have a habit of looking after Spanish Businesses before any other businesses, what will be interesting is

What any foreign resident owned business will receive.
How many foreign resident owned businesses will go bankrupt in spain.

Excellent by Sunak. Really good speaker, which has pleasantly surprised me.

Really hoping I hear some news about private renters next. My landlady who does fuck all for the house she owns gets a holiday, and Squeeze and I who have all the expense don't. Seems fair. I am sure there will be further measures. The Chancellor said there would be more, and, unlike the fool in number 10, he is actually believable.

Could also do with topping up SSP. If I self-isolate, £94 a week is nowhere near paying the bills.

Flu is way lower than 1% mortality, mate.

It isn't even that high for the over 65s in isolation and it's as good as negligible for anyone under 50.

Its a decent start but most of the money seems to be just a loan guarentee.
Supposed to be more announcements tomorrow, hoping to see some help for renters/self employed and individuals who have been put out of work ad of today

Barmaid at my local can't push a pint along the bar without spilling it, never mind bring it a mile to my house.

We're all going to be so fucking fat when this is all over

Shit, the queens gone and cancelled her garden parties now.
I'll have to make alternative plans.

English Heritage sites all closed from Thursday.
That's a kick in the balls, we've got ourselves an Easter break planned and bobbing around a few EH sites was our solution to see it through and make a fist of it in spite of all the issues. Thought they'd be a safe option for something to pass the time considering they're mostly open air ruins and generally run with minimal staffing.
