Coronavirus

All depends on the success of the Oxford Vaccine rollout but we can certainly write off the opening 2 months of 2021 in the best case scenario

Anyone have any ideas of the numbers in each group?

  1. residents in a care home for older adults and their carers
  2. all those 80 years of age and over and frontline health and social care workers
  3. all those 75 years of age and over
  4. all those 70 years of age and over and clinically extremely vulnerable individuals[footnote 1]
  5. all those 65 years of age and over
  6. all individuals aged 16 years to 64 years with underlying health conditions which put them at higher risk of serious disease and mortality
  7. all those 60 years of age and over
  8. all those 55 years of age and over
  9. all those 50 years of age and over

If we assume 200k vaccines per day and a few days faffing if the approval comes through on 27/28 we're looking at 6.2m people done by the end of January. 6.7m if we add in the 500k already done, but based on previous numbers that'll be nearer 750k by the start of Jan. So call it 7m by the end of Jan.

Give it two weeks to really start having an effect, so by 14th Feb we'll have 10% ish of the population who won't need hospital - based on none of the candidate in the Oxford trial suffering serious symptoms.

If we know many are in each of the groups we can figure out how many of the more vulnerable people will be vaccinated

Yep. With the French getting the PCR testing they insisted on when the UK wanted Lateral Flow tests used instead. Plus ça change...

(Apologies for the source)

Look, this is obviously happening so just get on with it and tell us what the plan is. Dithering about again.

Just announce it. No fucking around with tiers. Just whack us in lockdown, be open and honest and don't drop quips in or promises you have no clue you can keep. Dont tell us to use our common sense, we have none. Lay it out in black and white, don't leave wiggle room for people to abuse. Accept some fuckers will ignore you but the majority will follow. Don't make a decision based on what headline the Daily Mail and the Sun will run and dont make a decision based on what the looney fucktards in your own party want.
In other words Boris...BE A FUCKING LEADER.

We going back into essentially a full lockdown from Christmas Eve, PM has said dont expect things to get any better until the end of February.

We also banned travel from the UK on Sunday but we are essentially pissing in the wind on that score, after the cunts in the North apart from refusing again to take an all Island coordinated approach to various lockdown measures, the logical thing to do (but then again talking about logic and Northern politics is off the wall). Decided today to vote to allow flights in from tier 4 areas in England as they part of the UK etc (didnt stop Welsh and Scots putting in restrictions), so any selfish prick wanting to return home for xmas can jump on a plane to Belfast then head anywhere on the country and may start spreading the new strain (probably here already mind)
Wankers are blatently putting their ideology ahead of people lives.

If the scientists and developers of the vaccine say it achieves peak efficacy at two doses three weeks apart I would rather listen to them than Tony Blair who admits he may not have all the facts in front of him when making these musings.

His point is more vaccinate as quickly as possible and follow up with the second dose later (Oxford is peak at 2 months later isn’t it?)

The question for me is "what is the best use of one dose?".

If, for example, one dose gets you 70% of immunity and the second 95%. I'd rather have twice as many people at 70% than at 95%.

The Pfizer data shows big drop offs in infections 10 days after the first dose.
