Coronavirus

Dumb bastard.

the following from a guardian article was also quite worrying

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/mar/30/is-coronavirus-seasonal-summer

We need to be really careful with this. People need to be told what this involves. We've only really been locked down for a week and some people are acting like they've done 10 years at Broadmoor. Boris doesn't help mind with his send it packing in 12 weeks bullshit. Need to be in this for the long haul for it to work.

Telling people who have common sense the facts and the truth would be a good idea.
Unfortunately the other 90% of the population would go into meltdown and we'd end up creating more problems.
People in 'The West' particularly the younger generation are not used to having rules foisted on them.
It' 'not their fault' the ickle darlings, so it's carrot rather than stick.
So far so good.

Yet it's the 60+ 'telling it like it is' twats that are the noisiest in letting people know that they won't be changing their lifestyle whilst channelling the blitz spirit. Which even if they were around at the time they certainly can't remember.

Thing is, unless you ban incomings from basically everywhere, I don't get how we're ever going to be safe, until there's a bulletproof vaccine.

Yep, we may get used to it. Until we get to herd immunity and/or a vaccine.
Getting there slowly is the answer so that the health services don't get overwhelmed.
I'd say it will be a few years before we are back to where we were prior to this pandemic.

My fave take from the Blitz Spirit doing the rounds is as if people in London etc spent their nights in the pubs, out in the streets, waving lights around daring the Germans to drop a bomb on them and if they did they would still carry on as normal. Its all very strange

Ah, the blitz. A cheerful few years of widespread looting, a massive black market and a golden age for organised crime. Happy times.

The weird thing is my Grandad, who actually fought in the war, though my Mum's generation (aka the self same moaners Johnny refers to) were a bunch of feckless wankers. His words.

Plus, to realistically remember parents with ration books unless your early life memories were particularly vivid, you would need to be probably slightly over 70, with the scheme ending in 1954.

That’s the blitz spirit thing I think that is being referred to as the baby boomers of 1945 would have vague memories of rationing and then hitting the “never had it so good” times. So they have memories of just getting on with it and then everything turning out better, but that was against an economy recovering from a war, not against something that specifically needs a change in behaviour to be overcome.

Honestly think you are looking way to deep into the reasoning. Its generally the same throw away comment we had doing Brexit "We survived 2 World Wars, we can survive anything" just now they are adding a specific part of a War "We survived the Blitz I think we can survive a virus" and a few plays on tha, such as "Our pubs never closed in the Blitz so why should the flu close them". All generally said by fucking idiots.

'It's my right, innit?' Selfish people.
Besides; lot's didn't survive the wars, lots won't survive the virus.
Come to that a lot of pubs won't either.

Its across all generations as well.

The same people who come out with this "we survived" bollocks were the first racing to Tesco to clear the shelves of everything in utter panic

Quite ironic that one person who survived two world wars and Spanish Flu didn’t survive coronavirus this week. Of course, these stringent voices can’t be coming from people actually present as to have any memory of the first war you need to be at least 108.

With the oldest man on the planet being 112, I would aver that there are very few left in that category. People are attaching the memories that their parents or indeed grandparents would have had as their own in some bizarre history re write.
