Coronavirus

Big fan of Raab's exit from that press conference.

Mate, don't talk like that, that's worrying.

It shouldn't be really...basically my own existing health issues don't get impacted by this. I had good days and bad days six weeks ago, it happens now. But the thing is then I could think "well this is shit, but I'm doing xyz in the next few days/weeks, I'm seeing so and so, it'll all be worth it". There isn't any of that now so I was just musing on how futile things seem at the moment.

As I say, existing for the sake of it - it gets very much magnified for me as I'm on my own, no-one depends on me, I'm not actually doing anything at the moment work-wise so I'm just here and nothing else. It's like our crappy midfields of the 1990s - there's a body in the shirt and they're filling space on the pitch at any given moment, but they aren't contributing anything to the piece, they have zero value.

If you have weeks or even months of this, and the only battle really is whether you can keep your fridge moderately stocked, and there's nothing at all on the horizon bar more of the same...I think a lot more people will start to question it too. Not just the likes of me who 30%+ of the time don't even enjoy life when everything is normal.

My place of work just re-opened today after being closed for about a week.

Because, you know, we're clearly on the other end of things. I don't know if I'm more sad, angry, or disappointed.

Where do you work Al?

It's embarrassing.

Starbucks.

Other locations had stayed open all this time, but I sure wasn't expecting my particular store to re-open so quickly.

Why is it embarrassing?

Anyway, a nice safe enviroment for you to work in. Zero chance of a customer passing the virus on to you, god bless America.

Working in Starbucks isn't embarrassing, the fact it's open is though.

Working in Starbucks is better than not working at all, trust me

I must add, not at the minute !

Honest wage for honest work. Nowt wrong with that.

In other news, anyone on here with a strong hand moisturiser game that can recommend a decent product? All this extra long hand washing is turning my mitts to ash and they're starting to sting/itch.

Service industry work isn't a ticket to being taken seriously, at least not in America.

Look at the wages of people who are still going into their jobs. I can barely afford to put food on the table. The whole thing pisses me off, frankly.

I saw this in a paper I was reading :-

Results: Of 133 patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection, there were 44 moderate cases, 52 severe cases, and 37 critical cases with no significant difference of gender and age among three subgroups. Overall, the positive ratio in IgM antibody test was higher than in RT-PCR detection. In RT-PCR detection, the positive ratio was 65.91%, 71.15%, and 67.57% in moderate, severe, and critical cases, respectively. Whereas, the positive ratio of IgM/IgG antibody detection in patients was 79.55%/93.18%, 82.69%/100%, and 72.97%/97.30% in moderate, severe, and critical cases, respectively. Moreover, the concentrations of antibodies were also measured in three subgroups.

We're missing 1 in 3 positives from our testing. I am absolutely convinced that far more people have this than we think, by orders of magnitude - possibly even more than 100 times when you consider that the infection rate is potentially thought to be up near 4-6

Sorted my cheesegraters out last week.

Stands to reason if they're taking the average infected person infecting three more in turn. At 22,000 confirmed cases that's only 9 layers of contact from the very first infected person to pass it on, given how long it's been here now it's bound to be way higher. Loads will have already had it and got over thinking nothing of it.

That strikes me as good news. If more people have it than is currently projected, that means the rate of severity is also much lower.

Not saying it isn't still worth the concern, mind.

That's exactly what I was going to recommend. Every winter my hands crack, bleed, and and itch like crazy. found this stuff a bit ago and it's so, so nice. if you're not used to using hand moisurizer it can feel a bit 'thick', but even just putting it once a day before bed you should see pretty instant results overnight.

Does it dry quickly because I can’t stand the greasy ones.
