Coronavirus

Ambiguous one that.

Looks like tomorrow morning will be a quick trip to the office for me to grab my monitor and few other bits so I can set up a proper office at home for a few weeks. Annoying they couldn't have stuck to the normal time slot for this announcement so I could've packed it all up and bought it with me this evening.

Not sure where it leaves our sites though, it's necessary for them to travel to carry out their job but is their job necessary? Only seen a written summary of the statement so not sure which way to take it, open to interpretation! Perhaps they've done it that way intentionally to provide a bit of wiggle room and try to keep more businesses trading where they can.

BUT then, imagine the supemarkets from 5.30 to 8.00 it would have been fucking madness on a scale we havent yet seen.
It was purposely timed for when the supermarkets would be shut.
Also i agree with the "hmm leave it up to the employers to decide without it being our fucking decision" bit like what they did with the cafes/pubs etc..

Essential services aren't defined so as long as we can keep staffing the shop will keep the Charity open for business.

We supply 'medical' grade goods that we source from suppliers that service the NHS which you can't obtain from the average chemists.

We have very vulnerable customers so will continue trying to supply as long as we can.

I presume the Self Employed help is incoming as the non essential shops closing has just wiped out a lot of independant shops.

Warehousing for a multi-national paper/packaging company.
Amazingly, I'm not the only person on here who works in packaging then!

We sell timber cases/pallets/heavy duty cardboard boxes but are owned by a huge multi-national paper/packaging company.

At least I can still go to work for the time being. I am office based but not much of my job could be done at home.

The wife's had to close her business tonight. She works from home dog grooming, had been taking precautions meeting outside (keeping distance) but as all non essential travel is banned no one can get to her.

Not sure if she can get any help as a sole trader?

Good to know that Texans are not the only ones who cannot define lockdown, essential, etc. We are getting a "Shelter at home" announcement in 90 minutes. As of now it is not decided what that means.

Hardware stores still allowed to open i see, like to see the amount of folks in B&Q tomorrow.

It doesn't need to be a business that has key services. He's stopping people from congregating in town centres for shopping, retail parks for non food shopping, DIY centres etc etc.

Oh I agree, I was answering a specific point

The announcement is to keep the mongs out of Primark and Playgrounds

Universal credit at £94 isn't it at the moment for the self employed?

Well we supply paper to hospitals (and schools previously) and also take in paper direct from the mills. So are we essential down the supply line?

I agree he's been too vague and just left it up to business bosses to decide. Probably because the government would have to fork out 80% of wages if they told everyone to shut.
Travelling to and from work, but only where it is absolutely necessary and cannot be done from home.

He needs to define "absolutely necessary"

Does he mean the journey is absolutely necessary because it is the only way you can work (which is for me as it is utterly impossible to work from home) or does he mean you should only work if your work is deemed "absolutely necessary" and you cannot work from home?

It's wishy-washy ambiguously written fucking bollocks. And he had that on a fucking autocue.

1. STAYING AT HOME
You should only leave the house for one of four reasons.

Travelling to and from work, but only where this absolutely cannot be done from home.

From reading the comment and I stated this last week but I am amazed that so many people think self employed folk pay no taxes. Where has that come from?

If I can have all that money back, it'd come in quite handy...

Right now, it is down to your boss. So if you boss keeps your place of work open, then your trip (excluding the normal pick ups you do) is necessary as you can't do your job from home. So regardless of how Boris has put this across, that is where you sit right now.
