Chelsea 3-1 Wolves: Verdict Thread

I'd sell RAN and buy a defender. Nelson gutless for the header and gone walkabouts allowing the cross that Madueke put over for the other goal.
Far post we've been shit for two seasons, that is on the two 'full backs'.
I thought Agbadou played quite well tonight.

Did you just see the analysis? RAN just slows down, Doc is actually marking someone, hes touch tight.

RAN DOES have time, he needs to mark the more dangerous player in that instance and that's Cuca not Neto.

RAN takes no responsibility at all.
I did yeah. No idea what you are seeing but the cross is already being played in by the time RAN is running towards Cucurella. Even if he gets there in time he's not getting ahead of him. All Doherty has to do is hold his position in the middle of the goal and he clears the cross.

At least Semedo clearly cannot and will not ever be able to defend a back post. Whereas Ait Nouri has enough about him to be a good defender but just doesn’t bother at times

We looked good going forwards against Bristol and Newcastle with Guedes starting. Sarabia comes in and we are absolute dogshit again with him walking around passing the ball backwards.

I won't defend Guedes' defensive contributions because he's never going to be that player as he isn't good enough at that side of the game.
He had a good cup game that one time too! But he isn't the answer. Might have a good(ish) game sometimes but will be anonymous in the next four. We've made buying duds into an art form.

I’d say since New year the league performances have progressively got worst.
When you’re crap in both boxes you’ll lose every week.
We don’t have the shithouse ability to nick a 1-0,
It’s all looking a bit Watford under Nigel Pearson in 2019/20 had a bit of a new manager bounce but ultimately reverted to type and went down.

Doc needs to predict the flick on then??

No idea what you are seeing if you don't see RAN literally slow down (they even mentioned it) instead of getting ball side of Cuc, he had 40 yards to actually sprint rather than jog too, he has plenty of time if he actually shows some desire and/or intelligence.

Criticising the player who is actually marking someone rather than the player who has let the goalscorer drift off him is bizarre, but we'll leave it there.

Are LL and his boss preparing us for something...both going in hard on Cunha tonight for his performance, body language and walking straight down the tunnel at FT.

Setting us up for Arsenal's bid next week?

I don't go so much anymore, but week off after nights, goes to general sale, not been to Stamford Bridge before, £35 Travelodge so here we are.

My overarching opinion isn't much different to when I last went against Bournemouth, we get bullied all over the pitch and Chelsea aren't a particularly physical team. Players I've defended on here RAN and JSL were really poor, the former switched to the other side because Madueke is in his head the latter a 6 foot 4 powder puff.

9 goals conceded in the last 3, the new manager bounce has disappeared and I don't think he knows how to fix it...is it even fixable? Agbadou will be fine when switched to the correct side is my positive take, Cunha walking through the game my biggest new negative.

My criticism is needlessly leaving the area right in front of the goalscorer to mark someone who is already being marked. It's the kind of thing Kilman did. Passed away any responsibilty for defending that back post and shoved himself up the arse of a player which does absolutely bugger all to stop anything.

Yeah, RAN should have done better getting back in, Bueno also needs to be doing something other than just marking air. He has to be challenging the flick on properly and if he does, he wins the header and clears the ball easily, making whatever Doc and RAN are doing behind him redundant anyway.

Just on the train back - what a shit and fucking freezing evening.

From where I watched, we actually looked half decent hen we attacked - Joao was excellent tonight and Agbadou was solid and much more composed - after his nervy start last week.

But defensively we are a fucking shambles. It’s also our distribution - Doc and Santi continually put us under pressure with balls into no one. Doc did it countless times.

If we continue to give these fucking soft goals away, we’ll concede whoever we play.
Where I sat, the third one was like slow motion - looked like Sa could have come for it but stopped?

Chelsea were average, I thought. But didn’t need to be any better.

Sorry, probably me being slow but who is LL?
Cunha knocked about £5mil off his value with his performance tonight. I hope he just had an off day and will be here until we've survived.

The 3 teams we’ve notched points against under VP have been sides that are in as much turmoil than us. Any side that is coached to a decent level will find it no problem to pick up points against us.
The defensive options we have are a shambles for a PL side and the fact we’ve conceded 50+ shows it.
Body language throughout the side from the start looked like they were all suffering a hangover.
So much is wrong with this bunch the Lemina situation is indicative to a group who’ve been poorly managed for too long.

I won't defend Guedes' defensive contributions because he's never going to be that player as he isn't good enough at that side of the game.
He's so weak in the challenge. Mentally and physically. Further, he's not quick enough, not skillful enough, and not strong enough for this level. Just because Sarabia wasn't great doesn't mean Guedes was better. He wasn't.

Joao Gomes (and, when he came on, Rodrigo Gomes) were our only players to come out with any real credit today. Genuinely feel like we need two new centre halves and an attacking player to stay up.

The CLT Wolves and drinks were great. The Wolves Wolves? Less so.

Shine has come off Vitor very quickly; he’s a ton of work ahead.

I am concerned about Cunha. I hear the defence that he’s been ill, but that looked like a heartless performance. Depressing to know Dawson couldn’t improve that back three these days. Not a Doherty character assassination to point out that him being a key component of a premier league back line in 2025 is simply unacceptable. It’s a catastrophic setup back there.

Surveying the wreckage I still think there is something to be salvaged, with regards to staying up I mean, not actually being any ‘good’.

Just so, so easy, week after week. How do we keep leaving players totally unmarked from a variety of scenarios in the middle of the penalty box? It should be impossible.

Offered precious little of our own, we're back to the gameplan being "give it to Cunha", and we're never going to be able to grind out points with the likes of Doherty and Bueno in a back three.

A nod to a truly shameful sub appearance from Guedes, what a complete piece of shit that guy is.

Cannot see anything other than four defeats coming up and then we're right behind the eight ball. Unless we do something meaningful in the next 12 days. Which we probably won't.
The marking was so bad for crosses in the first 1 minute and 18 seconds they could easily have scored on three occasions. This zonal marking is so rigid they were overloading the far post and we didn't notice.

This squad has given VP the same false dawn with 7 points from three it gave O'Neil, near identical results too.

O'Neil - P3 W2 D1 F8 A3
VP - P3 W2 D1 F7 A2

The only surprising result really was Fulham who have been generally pretty handy this season, United and Spurs are in disarray and Southampton and Leicester are much of a muchness in terms of how wank they are.

I am growing to properly hate this squad, just beige footballers throughout the entire club, I compared it to the 2016/17 lot recently, there's just so much shite that shouldn't be anywhere near a Premier League squad.

The squad needs so much work that we're officially in terminal decline, survival this season only kicks the can down the road.

If we're pointing fingers at leaving people unmarked then why do all of Semedo, Gomes and Andre just saunter past Dewsbury Hall like he's invisible? If any one of those three picks him up then you wouldn't really back him to win the header would you?
