Chelsea 2 - 0 Wolves: The Verdict

I think we bottled it. 1 shot on target (and a tame shot at that) is never going to win games.

I hate it when we put attacking players at wing back to get "more attackers on the pitch" all it does is nullify our attackers and ruins our shape.

Jota was awful and Jimenez looked like a man whose been up all week with a new born.

Opportunity missed, and it's our fault.

we should have started with last team vs palace..podence abd traore..but, everything is easy in hindsight

I’m not particularly disappointed, it’s a good season. The circumstances of us losing out on top 4/6, WBA coming up and Villa staying up, when just over a week ago none of those events seemee likely, it’s bloody annoying!

I don’t think we will lose any players for various factors (age, value, consistency, short window) so hopefully we can build on this.

Gotta to try and keep it in perspective- I’d have loved to finish higher, and I’m sure that the players will be hurting that we haven’t, but given everything else that’s still a great achievement.
We had this in our own hands at the restart and have not done enough its as simple as that.

We’ve finished higher than we would have if the season had ended instead of restarting. That’s just nonsense.

An even game until Sky Six cheating and VAR going AWOL. Then a great free-kick and we went to pieces with the injustice of it all.

After Tom Daley got involved, nobody played well. Disappointing end to the league season, but in reality, I think before the start of the season we'd have all taken finishing 7th again and getting to the Europa League group stages - and we've done better than that.

Gutting with how close we actually came to more than that, but now is the time for reality.

When Raul doesn’t fire we really struggle, today was one of those days. We really need another striker or Campana to step up.

Very flat performance. Free-kick for the first goal wasn't a foul of course but at no point did I really think we were going to win the match.

Think Nuno got the lineup wrong. Wouldn't have started Jota, thought he was really poor. Questionable to drop Moutinho especially though, think that hurt us a lot. We were never coming back from the goals down, you could feel the frustration in the team (and see it with Jimenez lashing out). Today was one of those days where I did feel like our usual approach isn't the right way forwards, or at least it isn't during lockdown. Games don't have the same intensity, and unlike before didn't feel like the comeback was possible.

Bad day today but might hurt a bit less for me as I thought we'd drop points today, the penalty at Burnley is what hurt more. Will have to see what happens in the cup final to know whether we will be in the Europa League next year. I'd like us to be but at the same time could be a blessing in digsuise considering how hectic next season will be. Looking forward to Olympiakos next month.

Yes, much easier in hindsight!

We've seen many times under Nuno that putting attacking players at wing backs (Costa, Cavaleiro, Adama etc) doesn't improve us as an attacking outfit. I'm fact it's detrimental to our forward play as we're unbalanced.

The in play subs were where Nuno deserves some flack, not for the starting team imo.

Looking at it objectively resting Mout for the Europa might have been a good decision.

Its disappointing game, but we aren't at a level to expect a result at the bridge.

We drew there last year. Would've won, but for Hazard.

Really, really bad today. I can't remember every game under Nuno, and it's not the worst, but it's on the list somewhere for sure. Never looked like scoring in a million years.

Season's been a weird inverse of last year, when we did really well against the 'big' teams and struggled against those at the bottom. Fixed that this year but equally, City aside we've not had the knack for beating them this time. Hopefully next year we can have the best of both worlds...

Toothless. Even Bournemouth tried (and failed) harder, by the looks of it. A good, arguably very good season, but we're a way off greatness yet. Finished pretty much where we deserved to be, I think. We deserve EL more than Arsenal do as well, but whether we'll get it is anybody's guess.

Its fact not fiction so stop with the ire Alan. Its a bit tiresome

Tiresome is that you always seem happier when your doomsaying comes off than when we perform well.

Point blank, there's no place for it.

We were incredibly poor from start to finish BUT we lost our heads completely after that abomination of a decision to award the cheat a free kick. But no attacking threat at all throughout meant we got what we deserved. I don't give player ratings but if I did no-one would get more than a 5. Jota would get 1, for presumably putting his boots on the correct feet.

Also, Chelsea are a better team than us. They have been all season. That’s okay. It’s a shame about the performance (especially disappointing to only have one shot on target), but they are a slight level above us. That’s what we can aspire too - and that’s not unreasonable

But Lampard is just such a smug bastard.

And for us to lose to them without Pulisic scoring... Worst of all worlds for an American supporter. :icon_lol:

Off day today. Still a great season, we have finished in a position which is about correct for our level so no complaints in that respect.

These players have done brilliantly to improve the points total on what was already an impressive total last year. We are carrying a few players now though that we will have to be ruthless with and replace if we want to kick on from here next season. We need a better hit rate in the market this summer, we only bought in Neto last summer who improved the squad and the Summer window is the main opportunity to strengthen. Outside of actual games we have a big 4-5 weeks coming up.

yeah mostly but for me..both, he bottled it

I agree with you here Fred.

I think Jota has been very inconsistent this season

Crawled over the line. I'll take finishing 7th as a couple of games back I was worried about Sheff Utd and Arsenal overtaking us as well as Spurs.

We need to find a way of adding threat from RWB if we are chasing a game that doesn’t involve us putting Traore there. He’s fine defensively but the hit to his attacking game makes the change worthless - I’m struggling to think of when he’s managed to change a game from RWB.
