Boro 2 - Wolves 1. A what did I expect verdict thread

No Williamson for Tuesday, we can't 'get him over the line'

Thank you Darlo for being a gentleman and so helpful. it was also nice to meet Lycan, he looks a lot younger than I expected.

At least with Mason being involved with our goal (well, OG but who cares) he's more likely to start ahead of Siggy/Byrne (prefer starting over the former) Tuesday, we need some threat and we didn't really do anythign until...what, 25/20 minutes of the game left? Where putting pressure on the other team and getting forward a little more was actually a big improvement in the way we were playing?

Mason has the same problem as Siggy, Wallace and before them Jacobs. His best position is behind the striker, but Jackett doesn't like to play one or at least not one in that style, so he'll end up either being played out of position or on the bench. I'd play him instead of McDonald in a 442/4411 on Tuesday but it won't happen

No composure on the ball again, players couldn't get rid of it fast enough. Backs to the wall stuff again. That effective disciplined performance against Derby a distant memory.

I thought we were desperately unlucky at the end not to grab a point, as we threw everything at them bar the kitchen sink and Boro were hanging on by their finger nails. It all bodes well for Tuesday night when we can make it 6 points out of a possible 9 – not too shabby.

Same XI to start please Kenny.

I was waiting for a football match to break out, it never did. Caution rules.

You may get a few tiddlers but not many ;-)

Absolute pleasure meeting you mate...its sad when the highlight of the evening is drinking beer and meeting friends. I look forward to your next visit and hopefully we can get to a pub, have a drink and put the world to rights! :)

It's probably cruel to criticise players who are completely out of their depth but I haven't got a clue how anybody can find anything positive. It's that bad Doherty is now touted as potentially international class.

4/10 the lot of them.

Only Matt Doherty is touting Matt Doherty as potentially international class.

I know that. It's fucking laughable. I'm just against finding positives when there isn't any.

There is no obligation to find a positive.

It was a dreadful team performance against an average Boro side.

It seems to me that our main problem is all of our players (currently available) are at best mid table Champ but probably more lower Champ/top 1st. Their ability to pass or control a ball is pitifull although I think a lot of that was Boro's closing down last night, while when they were on the ball they were allowed loads of time, suspect all our players are just poor technically and not athletic enough. I've been banging on about our midfield since we came up from Div 1...none of em are good enough, Price is probably the pick of the bunch, Coady after his performance against Derby deserves a bit more of a go, Saville is fast running out of time to prove himself and as for McDonald.......I've always thought him well over-rated, he produces the occasional sublime long pass but mostly just ambles around, panics when under pressure and gives the ball away far too often. Evans is not the answer imo, played well in Div 1, started well last season but then rapidly went down hill, very similar to McDonald to me.

It says a huge amount when my weekend excitement, these days, revolves around the Leicester result. Come on you Foxes!

Doubt it, he hasn't got anywhere near a squad and they have plenty of options that are objectively way better than him on either side. He's had two decent games as well, the rest of the time he has been hopeless. There's no indication that anyone from the Ireland setup is looking at him, all that's happened is that he has bigged himself up unprompted a couple of times and said he wants to play international football, not even our own manager with his multiple delusions has mentioned anything. He'd have a small chance if they were naming a provisional squad of 150, but they aren't.

Joe Mason has a far better chance of getting in the provisional squad if we ever bothered starting him being as Ireland are short of forwards to the point that Daryl Murphy has been their main striker lately and Kevin Doyle was still getting in squads relatively recently. But that won't happen either.
