Aston Villa

Probably a stupid question, but presume we would not have been 'on the list' if we hadn't got promoted

Assume we would have merely sold 'assets' which we have plenty of to deal with it (& for footballing/player requirements would have had to anyway regardless of FFP situation)

Correct and correct, but as you say Neves wouldn't be here this season anyway if we hadn't gone up.

I think that may be the car parks areas that were mentioned before. Interesting charge. Quite punitive terms. They have basically taken out second mortgages on these slabs of land to get some cash. But HEY ITS NOT BANK LOANS says Tony...

I thought they had just come out of an embargo?

And immediately have spunked millions. Just a suggestion as a possible candidate. I have no proof or evidence, just put out a possibility to consider.

That kinda shows how stupid FFP is, forest clearly have money and as long as their owners don't lamp it on the club as loans whats wrong with them spending some of it.

That's my thoughts as well. FFP should be there to limit idiocy. It shouldn't be there to limit financially-backed ambition.

How should the EFL differentiate between the two?

It's pretty easy for owners to pretend to be loaded, it's been going on for years.

Money put directly into the clubs bank account (if that's what clubs have) proving the money is there? Maybe that's just a really simplified idea as I don't know how that works

Not easy at times I admit. But charging against transfer income due in and on property would be a pretty clear red light.

Also the authorities could probably have asked for some proof of ability to pay when the Terry deal went through.

It's reasonably clear that there is bet the farm, and then there is the obviously minted ownership situation that we had. That can be differentiated between, in my opinion.

Not simplified, that's exactly how it should work. Not personal guarantees as we know with some of these owners that's worth as much as Twitter Tone's presence in the boardroom.

Also - why should PSG get FFP issues when they are clearly backed by the Qatari state? That isn't about protecting the PSG fans from a potential meltdown. That is solely about protecting the European elite from a stronger PSG muscling in on their slices of pie.

Indeed. I do think there should be a salary cap much like there is in the American sports as that does level the playing field far more than what people spend on transfers.

Dean Marney training with Villa. 34 years old. Not played a first team game since January 2017.

Textbook Bruce.

To be fair he will be within their spending budget. Apart from signing non league lads and promoting kids he his stuck with chasing targets like Marney

After last seasons big talk on using yoof you would expect him to fill his team with bright English talent though...

Don’t know how true, but just read on Twitter that they can’t even afford to bring in players on loan.

It gets more tempting by the minute. Especially if they get an admin deduction.
