Aston Villa

Bruce has been told to make it very clear who is for sale because of FFP. Obviously Dean Saunders will shout him down.

And the manager has called for supporters to ready themselves for the worst case scenario

“I think we’ve got to be truthful to supporters. That could happen. I didn’t like to hear that and maybe the easiest thing for me to do is say, ‘I don’t like that, I’m walking away from that’.

“After thinking about it, you know the club’s in trouble, and if ever it needs me with my experience to beg, steal and borrow then now is the time.

Very noble of you Steve. But when have you ever done that before?

He knows they can't afford to sack him, he knows he'll never work at a bigger club than Villa again, he knows he has the perfect smokescreen when he does eventually leave, "it wasn't wor fault, the money dried up" (because you spent it, you fat bastard).

Fairly shameless.

He'll resign to distance himself if relegation looks on the cards to keep his 'reputation'

He's on £1.5m a year (perpetually, as it's a rolling deal). Nearly £30k a week. So ride it out until October/November, doesn't matter what the league position is, ask the Fake Doctor for a meeting (assuming his phone hasn't been cut off) and then resign saying you can't deal with the squad as it is not being bulked up in January. Wait for some other idiot to employ you. Meanwhile you've picked up another half a million quid.

Nice work if you can get it.

Do we think that villa are really that worried about FFP? To me it seems that the EFL have said to Villa there are some really harsh sanctions coming your way (relegation? Points deduction?) if they don't meet FFP because selling their prized assets on the cheap is obviously a really bad idea

OR

They're using FFP as sort of a smoke screen to raise funds to stop villa going bust

The latter, realistically.

They've spent all of 2018/19's money already and Twitter Tone doesn't have anything to put in to cover it.

They need the funds in to cover bills and to remain a going concern.

I've said earlier in this thread, players will be sold for whatever imminent bills need paying at the time, they're deep in it,and Bruce isn't the man to get them out of it,I think he'll go just before the start of the season,or very shortly after its started,be a falling out over something trivial and off he strops

Even if a white knight rides into Aston tomorrow and buys out the Dr, they might be better off from a cash flow perspective but are still fucked for two or three more years due to FFP.

Up to six Championship clubs could be facing a transfer embargo for failing to comply with FFP obligations. #BCFC

Villa, Derby, Blues, Middlesbrough, Bristol City and Sheffield Wednesday???

I think Boro would be fine. They had a pretty low spend in the PL (wages and fees) so the majority of that money was banked and they'd be absolutely fine over the three year rolling period.

Back of a fag packet maths suggests Villa are ok for now on FFP, the issue is a year down the line for them - their current issue is cashflow, they don't have any - unless the FL suspect they have no intention of complying during 2018/19 (or simply can't, whatever they try to do) in which case they can bring forward the penalties. Blues definitely, 100%. Bristol City have been busy selling so that they are probably ok. Wednesday do have a problem. Derby...not sure. They've been steadily downgrading for a year or so on previous ambitions and doubt Lampard would have walked into that environment, he isn't stupid.

Bolton tend to fuck everything up so they could have fallen victim to it somehow.

I doubt Hull, Allam cut spending while they were still in the Prem didn't he? Got big fees for Robertson, Clucas and Maguire too?

My guess would be Villa, Blues, Wednesday, Bolton, Blackburn, Reading

Forest - imminent embargo and they are spending as much as possible and filling their squad out before the shit hits.
