There was some crazy stat going around the police service a few years back that all the gun crime Great Britain per year is less than the equivalent in the City of Seattle! I found that astounding.

A kid here got shot walking to school yesterday morning not 10 minutes from where I live.

It just kind of is what it is.

Fourteen children and a teacher reported dead in a shooting at an elementary school 90 miles west of San Antonio. Shooter was 18 years old.

Nothing will change.

If only one of the fourteen children had also had a gun...

Awful, but nothing will change. If it didn't change after Sandy Hook, it never will.

RIP all of the victims

I'm sure it will be a mental health rather than gun issue, but at least you will still be able to defend your sheep from wolves and foxes

Shooter was 18. Fuck.

It is a mental health issue as much as a gun issue, IMO. We fucking failed this kid and his victims and we ought to grapple with that.

We won’t. But we ought to.

It's not Alan. He will undoubtedly have MH issues as do millions of people across the world, what makes the US unique is you give people with those issues easy access to guns. We are far from perfect as a country, but in a similar situation it would be knife led and considerably less people would die. What's worse is MH will be hidden behind to protect the guns.

Biden is offering thoughts and prayers though so all is good

Don’t mistake me; I am no proponent of the 2nd Amendment.

But the MH aspect can’t be pushed to the side. Because that would mean inspecting the actual structural factors that contribute to MH. Socioeconomic standing, access to healthcare, etc.

I want people disarmed first and foremost, but I don’t want the conversation to stop there.

The richest third world country strikes again.

The NRA freaks will undoubtedly be out but let's not forget that in the shooting in New York recently a guard was armed but his shots didn't achieve anything due to the shooter wearing body armour.

The cognitive gymnastics of Republicans screaming pro life but then sitting idly by as children are massacred time and time again is simply astonishing really. Almost as if the child isn't their focus after all.

Heart goes out to each individual family affected but fuck the United States of America.

As the saying goes life is sacrosanct until you are born

Nah but I need my boomstick because... reasons.

Over 32,000 people died from gun crime in the US last year.
That's 87 people every day.
Wow!

In 2022 so far, there have been 199 MASS SHOOTINGS in the US. It's only fucking May!!!
Death toll in Uvalde has now risen to 21.

Ban on assault weapons resulted in drop in deaths, legislation expired and death rate goes up. It’s almost as if the issue isn’t mental health but access to assault weapons.

Such a tragedy again. That this is happening and nothing being done to prevent it should be a wake up call, but sadly the real power in US politics rests with the gun lobby and the Christian fundamentalists.
