I can't decide if I'd feel better or worse about it if it was terrorism rather than just some guy who lost at Madden.

Maybe it would be equally bad, just in a different way.

These shootings should be classified as terrorism in its broadest sense. The use of indiscriminate violence to spread terror. You've said it yourself, you've felt that terror knowing the location as you do.

I do wonder what effect labelling them as terrorists would have (if any) on their fellow basement dwellers. "The Jacksonville terrorist was killed on the scene..." Sends an entirely different message than words like shooter/attacker/bomber.

I think you're grossly underestimating the pro-gun part of this country if you think the split is 50/50.

And, no. Not really. Anti-gun doesn't bring in money like pro-gun. Money that is then spent on lobbying. Things won't change in my lifetime, assuming someone doesn't shoot me first.

Jesus. Mini is in the states at the moment. I wish in many ways he was home. He is having a great time in DC but this doesn't happen here. It saddens me because it is a great country but the gun laws just have to change some time. Until they do, more people are going to keep dying. It's awful.

They aren't going to, Pad. I've totally resigned myself to it. Too many people here view gun ownership as an absolute right.

This one differs from the previous few in that it doesn't fall into the "mass shooting" variety.

From the sound of things, it was a 1-on-1 fight. Just, one of the kids had a gun. And now the other kid is dead. Story currently is that the shooter immediately had an about-face and turned himself over to police without so much as a whisper after the incident took place.

Just so, so weird to see a place that I'm intimately familiar with on the news in this way. The Jacksonville shooting last month was one thing. I spent nearly every day for four years in that school. It's totally, utterly unsettling to think about.
