please don't think of that as anything other than a literal cult. :icon_lol: those people are crazy.

I've said this before but it's the areas outside of the big cities that are 'proper America' in the Trump sense. Both Philly and Pittsburgh voted Clinton, but that still couldn't carry Pennsylvania. We Brits all visit NY, California, LV, Chicago, Boston, Orlando etc when we go to the US, but that isn't hardcore America.

is wolverhampton representative of the UK? or London?

Not sure of the point you are trying to make. There is an argument that London isn't representative of the wider UK. Wolverhampton for example was pro Brexit as were most, although not all major cities north of London, but London has many economic advantages that other UK cities doesn't have, particularly central government and wider worldwide investment.

if those cities aren't proper america (despite 85% of the population living in metro areas), wolverhampton isn't proper england.

I'm not sure that I understand your point.

I edited my original post but it depends on how you define metro areas or more importantly their overall impact on the entire state doesn't it? My point about PA is accurate with regards to what I would regard as the large cities from an ill educated UK perspective, yet that still didn't carry the state. FWIW I would argue Wolverhampton is more representative of the whole of the UK or at least England than London is even though I wouldn't personally identify with what some of that is

that's where the electoral college and congress comes into play, to make sure a dozen sheep-fuckers in BFE montana don't have the same pull as the entirety of NYC.

looking at a voting map of the US is indeed very strange. sea of red.

As population density decreases, conservatism increases.

In all seriousness, there is no "proper" United States. No one area is really representative of the country on the whole. You could define five or six wholly distinct cultures within our border.

Yes you are correct, incorrect terminology, should have said something like 'Trump heartland America'.

Which is weird, because the heartland and working class used to be democrats. I read a good article awhile ago about how the democratic party has lost of their more central or conservative membership due to various things like hard stances on political correctness, gay marriage, racism, etc.

Not that I'm suggesting any particular party should be embracing their 'deplorables', but the fact of the matter is that large portions of any populace are shitbags. Those shitbags vote. A lot of democrats (or former democrats) may have even voted for Trump in these areas, because they saw Hillary as some uptight elitist in the pocket of wall street. But because some of these people may have fears about muslims (not a lot of those in rural Indiana), or have fears about factories shutting down, or etc., which the democrats just don't address, they feel increasingly alienated.

The loss of the non-metro-democrat crowd it's NOT helping the party as a whole, and has helped lead to this senate/congress majority, many state houses being republican majority, etc.

Thankfully the shooter himself is the only casualty thus far.

my mom is the emergency management director for the city where the austin bomber was caught and blew himself up in, so she's been up all night working. my sister works for fedex; the unexploded bomb that was caught was headed to her facility. very well could have been handled/delivered by her.

have a few friends who actually live on the street the last bomb went off on

so this has been fun.

Was down in Texas myself on Monday. Didn't hear the news till I got back

4 people killed in a restaurant in Nashville by a naked man with an assault rifle. The suspect was overpowered by a customer and fled, and is still on the loose.

The same guy was also arrested by the Secret Service last year for attempting to break into the White House to meet Trump. And yet he was allowed to have 4 guns, 2 of which are assault rifles.

And the Americans will still say - "oh but there was nothing that could have been done to prevent it"

Bunch of fucking idiots.

the rifle he used was actually confiscated after his previous arrest. the property was eventually returned to his father, who just gave the guns back to the kid.

doh.

Quality parenting.
