Welcome to Wolves Marshall Munetsi

Always interesting to see people writing off a player after a handful of games. He scores those chances he had in his first three games and this is a different conversation. Every club has transfer duds and transfer successes. On balance, we're about even over the last couple of years. For every Guedes there's an Andre or Gomes. We're not a club who are going to be able to sign oven ready proven Prem. players and we can no longer attract players like Moutinho because we aren't seen as a project or on an upward trajectory.

Wasn't that long ago we all thought Bellegarde was a dud but now he's starting to show his worth. Sometimes it takes a while for players to settle in a new country and in the Prem. What I like about Munetsi is that he can see space (and I don't mean with his passing!) and he can get himself into some good positions. I know he hasn't done much to justify his position in terms of end product as yet but I'm not going to judge him yet a while.

Hwang, on the other hand, has always been shite and but for being in the right position a few times to score, has offered next to nothing. If we're talking about transfer business, not taking the money on offer for him last Summer was a huge mistake.

Extremely harsh to say it “bounced in” off Marshall. It was a good finish.
It was because it would have been really easy to snatch at it given his misses in his first couple of games. I thought he took it well but I can understand the point of view of others who feel he didn't really make good contact because it was a bit slow motion going in.

Got a push as he’s about to make contact and still managed to angle it back across Pickford. How many times have we seen more technically proficient players like - Sarabia - just hit it straight at the keeper? Plus the fact Marshall has even made that run - none of our other midfielders/players make that run and get in that position.

Saying it “bounced in off him” is daft.

IMO he does really well to get the pace on the shot that he does, given he’s falling over with both feet off the ground when he hits it.

It was the most Dave Edwards goal not scored by Dave Edwards. It’s probably because he fell over and wasn’t in control of what he was doing that he scored.

I try not to write off a player on limited evidence but apart from an ability to get into goal scoring positions (Strand Larsen take note) the only other evidence that exists is that he is limited.

He is being played out of position, but there doesn’t appear to be a place for him in midfield unless we are going to dispense with a forward player.

That said, I have always believed that an effective player can be useful as long as they are effective and if he scores a few goals between now and the end of the season his limitations will be overlooked.

I don’t want to put a downer on things on a big win. But I can’t get my head around this bloke.

8 touches after 60 minutes.

9 after 80!

Tbf he ended up on 25 touches so he touched it nearly 200% more times in the last 10 minutes than the rest of the game. Mist have been slowly grinding them down. Missed a sitter(s) in those touches too

Absolutely no idea how he stayed on for the full 90 again - he couldn’t run after 50 minutes!

Vítor clearly has a (blind) soft spot for him. I’d have had Hwang on around the hour mark because we know he can run and occasionally he’ll hit one without thinking about it and it’ll go in. I’d have fancied him to score the chance Marshall crashed against the post & I reckon he’d have hit the target for the one on one towards the end too.

Not gonna say he’s shite or anything like that - because he has attributes that will be useful in certain games - but I’ve no idea how he’s getting full 90’s. Such a weird footballer.

I think he stayed on because of the height.

They had some giants on the pitch and he wanted to keep him on for corners.

He is a strange footballer but he must be the type that fulfils exactly what the manager asks, and we've been pretty solid since he came in so does the dirty side of the game.

Could've scored two very easily, and deserves a mention for the late run in the corner that helped see the game out.

He strikes me as the sort of player who might be very streaky. He'll have a good spell of games and then disappear for a month.

I’m going to assume we’re just playing him completely out of position. We’re basically playing Karl Henry or some other defensive midfielder as a second striker and then wondering why he looks lost

We sort of put Seyi there for part of 06/07. Similarly looked absolutely lost for 90% of the game but did have a goal threat (and similarly, had some seriously ropey finishing when it did fall his way).

@Lycan told me earlier that Seyi was a better footballer than Munetsi, I'm not sure I'd go that far but they're a similar level. Neither are what they look like they should be, in fact I'm not sure what either were/are.

Munetsi has the benefit of directly replacing that fucking prick Guedes rather than Seyi being handed Alex Rae's shirt.

He’s our budget Fellaini.

I assume he plays the full 90 minutes because he occupies space and doesn’t seem to tire, and even if he did, we don’t rely on his energy to close out games in the sense of trying to keep possession, because well, I would have more chance of controlling a football in tight areas. He will also score the odd goal too, he certainly gets enough chances.

Will see how he does next season.

That's pretty much it, yeah. Whether it's the first minute or the 96th if the ball is anywhere near either box he'll be there trying to affect the play.

He's an absolutely dog shit footballer though. No technique, terrible decision making, no composure, no game intelligence. He seems unsure of where to stand or what to do in certain scenarios in a way you only usually see from young players still learning the game.

Vítor describes him as a fighter but I'm not sure about that either, he flinches away from contact quite a lot. The were a few times where he had to hold the ball up with a defender touch tight to him last night and he just coughs the ball straight up under the lightest pressure.

He's an endurance runner who's taken a wrong turn and stumbled onto a football pitch.

He's doing a job currently under VP and the team are performing well points-wise with him in it, so that's fine in the short term.

Interested to see where Vitor sees him in a (hopefully) better team and squad that starts 25/26

I mean you can't be immune from criticism when you're demonstrably that poor with the ball at your feet.

I think he's a really odd footballer. Positionally, he seems to be really important to the way we set up. I think that's actually helped JSL, and the number of excellent chances that have come his way isn't down to luck. He's going to score goals for us - I can't believe he's going to keep missing the chances he has (and the one chance he did put away was actually a decent finish).

What I can't understand is the lack of standard footballing ability 75% of the time. Too early to make a proper assessment? I dunno - his technique hasn't improved since our first glimpse at him at Ewood Park.

TL;DR I 've no idea what to make of him!!

He is Dave Edwards.
From what I've seen so far, for all his faults, Edwards was a better footballer. I accept its a low bar. I actually like them both for different reasons but we need much better than either in midfield in the future. Maybe Marshal will step it up soon, or maybe next season😁
