U21s got beat 3-0 at hednesford last night, a few trialists playing apparently.

I heard an interesting interview this morning with the chairman? Of Maidstone utd, he was saying that a rule change in 2011 meant that they don't receive any money for their academy players that move such as Aaron Simpson to us. Seems an unfair way of doing it to me, they spend money on an academy and on training players and get nothing as a reward.

From what the guy was saying they aren't allowed to offer contracts to the kids in full time education as they are when they are under 18 in their academy then they get cherry picked by higher up teams (sounds like 4/5 have gone this season) for no compensation. I think Fulham agreed to give them something for Smalling in the end but they didn't have to.

Jack Batten (I think that's his name) is on trial with us atm from Bristol City and played last night if I'm correct. My mate plays for City's academy and reckons he's a class player but wasn't enjoying it in Bristol... Here's hoping.

He was highly rated at brizzle, always played a couple of years above his age group. Linked with Liverpool and Everton for the last couple of years - but not got into their first team, even as sub. Hopefully we can bring the best out of him.

Maidstone had previously stolen Simpson from further down the food chain, it happens all the time. Batten was hot property only two or three seasons back, he had a choice of ten or more clubs back then.
