Wolves Academy Thread

Hammill I would have probably gone for!!. Gregory, not a fooking chance.
 
You'd have got to meet the fuckknuckle face to face and call him out for what he is. I'd pay good money for that.

Great news on Iorfa, he's got everything.
 
Agreed, it won't be long before the Premier League start sniffing round.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Williams and Graham as the two next to come through the 21's and probably at some point this season.

I guess the academy is gaining in reputation with Batth, Ikeme, Iorfa, Hause, Price, Evans, Zeli, EEL and McAlinden all coming through the system and proving to be good assets for the first team.

Would be nice to see some wingers and strikers with pace come through.

Yeah, but the academy is a waste of money.

You have Keita who shouldn't be far away either.

I can't understand some fans and the obsession they have with buying new players and then complaining we don't have a youth system producing a Messi comparable once a year.

Looking at that list, that's an entire back 5 and central midfield which are all championship standard and with the exception of Ikeme all under 25. I can't think of a team that has done that in any division with success since the rise of Man Utd in the 90's.
 
Probably a bit harsh but maybe being a tad over generous to give the academy credit for Evans and Hause? Suppose they had a fair chunk of time in the U21/development side but they were both exposed to first team football before they arrived at Wolves.

I really can't make my mind up on EEL. He's pretty strong and does the basics ok, but he's no good on the ball at all and I suspect opposition teams would fancy targeting him. I don't think you can pair him and Batth unless you plan on going ultra direct and also play a very deep line, we don't really want to do either.

You need to have a good academy set up to be able to attract young talent to the academy also. Although, yes I'd agree they haven't fully come through the academy, but would they have come if we had an academy similar to say Blues?

I think EEL will get better, he has pace too which makes him a possible upgrade on Batth eventually and I agree EEL is more of a direct replacement than a partner for Batth. Still nice to see a good defensive unit coming through the system.

I could be wrong but did I read somewhere that Hause was from the Birmingham City academy?
 
Nah, he was West Ham before Wycombe I think.
 
I think EEL will be a good player in time but is far too inconsistent atm. Earlier in the season I saw him have a fantastic game vs Boro, kept Vossen and Bamford quiet all game and looked comfortable in possession. 4 days later vs Leeds he was all over the place and played off the pitch by Steve Morison.

He has all the attributes to make it at a higher level but needs a bit more game time to get up to speed. When Golbourne returns I wouldn't be surprised to see him go out on loan to a League 1 club with Hause taking his place on the bench as back up CB.
 
I'm not sold on EEL to be honest. He'll be a Danny Shittu-type clogger CB at best. Iorfa on the other hand can be whatever he wants to going by what little I've seen of him so far.
