Wolves 3-2 Man City: Delicious Double Verdict

Physically and emotionally fucked. Fuck you VAR, again we beat 13 men (12 for most of it), I love you Wolves. I fucking love you. If I’d dint have to be up in five hours I’d be getting slaughtered now. Best game I’ve ever seen and now I’m fucked. What a night, what a team, what a manager.

Just seen the highlights - how the hell did Mahrez get a penalty from that!

Yes it was probably a foul, but it took him an age to realise & go down

We have only 45 hrs, but Pool really won't want us coming there - 1st team to beat them this season?

It’s going to take a Lot for the players to recover from that amount of effort, go again on Sunday, and then again on Wednesday. I’d still swap a fair few out tbh.

I’m still a little flat. Yes, it worked out great at the end, but that fucking utter nonsense with the penalty is just awful. It’s ruining football, we have no idea what is happening in the ground. This might better for the gamblers and tv viewers, but it’s not football. At least it’s not football I want to watch.

Come on mate, I understand what you're saying about var and the way refs have been told to interpret the rules but that was a pulsating match with just about everything you'd want.....as long as you're the winner

Honestly, I didn’t even celebrate the 1st or 2nd goals as I fully expected them to be VAR’d. Doesn’t feel a patch on beating Utd in the FA Cup last season or Villa in the champ.

Was a great game, but can’t really say I enjoyed it. I suspect this will probably be my last season as a season ticket holder, if I can’t feel excited / happy after that comeback, then that says a lot.

What have we just witnessed?! My god this is some team. We never give up even when everything is stacked against us. Hate what VAR is doing to the game. Hate the way teams like City play for the decisions when they are so technically gifted anyway. Can't quite believe we turned that around but boy if ever a side deserved to win a game then we sure did tonight! What a time to be alive!

+1

Drained. Absolutely drained.

That's some comeback and what a performance from them all both mentally and physically. The ground pulsated tonight, that's what the PL and this team has done for us.

Neves passing was joyous he completely bossed midfield tonight and Traore was magnificent. It's a joy watching this team, it's movement, the shear quality of style and play from Nuno, it's a great team, probably the best in most of our lifetimes.

The fact we've dominated Manchester City is utterly amazing and beating the officials on the same night as well is a fantastic feeling.

Do you think we will get punished for the fans chucking stuff?

Incredible.

I am really shocked by Guardiola's tactics - not seen him ever really do that with his teams. Imagine how many times they have outplayed teams with ten men. I think that shows the respect he had for us (especially our ability on the counter attack) but also due to the fact they had a game in two days like us, I think he was trying to conserve energy but I think they would have been better off retaining possession for longer periods of time.

We have to give ourselves credit and the tweaks from Nuno were exactly what we needed. Traore wasn't necessarily beating Mendy round the outside, so getting him on Jota inside was exactly what was needed.

The first half was a really weird one in that we had the VAR calls and the head injury that disrupted the flow. The second half was amazing though, we played to a really good tempo and only really made one mistake (the defending for the second Sterling goal).

Didn't think Raul or Doc had good games at all but the combination for the goal was wonderful! Neves was fantastic, his passing was excellent but he stopped a lot of counter attacks to maintain pressure in their half too. Traore learning to shoot is incredible, and it means teams can't afford to drop off him so much. Massive bonus.

I guess we will see how some of the players recover tomorrow and during the day Sunday. It's a tough one for Nuno. Vinagre, Bennett and Neto will come in at least I think.

There's been a few incidents of fans chucking stuff this season. What punishment did the other teams get?

Thats a real shame, hope you get your mojo back for the game, its an absolute joy to be a Wolves fan atm and we have only just got started

That was one phenomenal experience.
I thought we played really well throughout to be honest. Started pretty steady, Coady was very on form tonight, and exceptionally focussed.
Thought it was a nailed on red, and felt pretty confident then about our chances of getting something from the game, as we know we're a really fucking good side, and even though it is against man city, and they are at full strength, we've got to back ourselves. And we did.

I haven't seen the Mahrez challenge except for live. At the time, it looked a dive. He seemed to take at least 2 steps before hitting the deck. Yet the longer it went on, and tredman is right, that was genuinely farcical, it seemed inevitable a pen would be given.

Brilliant save from Rui on both penalties. Real shame that they managed to get the goal from the 2nd.

Still, we knew we'd create chances, and the team believed. Although we went 2 down, as soon as we scored it was clear the team knew we had it in us not to just rescue a point, but to go on and win.

Neves was brilliant in that 2nd half, Moutinho was everywhere, Traore coming inside was causing them all sorts of bother, and they were struggling with Jota too. Jonny was involved in so much attacking play. But it has to be said, all 3 of our goals are things of beauty! The break, ball to Traore, and then the precision shot. Traore intelligently winning the ball back, and megging the defence for Raul, and then that interplay, with Doc's close control for the winner, good heavens!

Good subs by Nuno too. Vinagre and Neto both played important parts in stretching City.

We are good. This period could be a phenomenal precursor. What a ride this is going to be!

I'm so pissed off on behalf of our squad.

After tonight they should have the right to an appropriate rest and go to the best team in the country and test themselves against them. Win lose or draw. This farcical break between games dilutes the competition imo. There's no way we can go again to the same degree in Sunday.

Can only hope the Scousers don't fancy Thursday-Sunday football. It ain't for everyone ;)

So very proud of this team though. We could've lost it at the injustice like at Boro away but we regrouped and kept going even after the suckerpunch of 0-2.

As a gambler it does nothing for me!

Wow, just wow. So proud to be a Wolves fan

That was epic.

Replay on amazon at midnight and I'm so wired I'm going to watch all of it.

Watching the pre match coverage now!

Anyway

Rui - saved 2 pens, but could he have held the 2nd? Very harsh? But just a thought. That's 3 out of 3 Sterling saves for him including Asia cup?

Doc - goal aside I thought he was a bit crap, although he did get in some good positions just didn't get fed. What a goal though, so calm in the finish. He's been in that position before, against Brighton away last season and another game this season that he slammed at the keeper, tonight he slotted it. What a goalscoring enigma this bloke is.

Donk - gave away the penalty, and whilst harsh he didn't need to dangle a leg? Also looked at fault for their second with trying to play offside? However probably hedging his bets knowing he'd never catch Sterling - would need to see it again. He was very good other than that.

Coady - good performance, did very well in the air I thought and made 2 or 3 vital challenges when they were in behind.

Saiss - excellent performance, his passing was so good fed our wide players really well and snuffed them out countless times. 1 tackle on KDB was Bobby Moore-esque. Our best defender tonight I thought, yet i was most worried about him pre game.

Jonny - god forward well, and linked nicely with Jota, unlikely not to get a chance when the ref fucked us over.

Neves - was this his best overall game in a Wolves shirt? Did SOOO much work, his tackling, heading, passing and even a bit of dribbling was exemplary, truly superb tonight. MoTM

Moutinho - excellent, but unusually not as good as Neves. A couple of disappointing deliveries.

Jota - could he have scored rather than milk the sending off? Need to see it again, always a threat, decision making slightly off tonight. Always a threat though.

Raul - I didn't think he was great tonight, but he gets a goal and assist!! Barmy.

Traore - again a superb goal and a superb assist, end product now is getting really consistent! It was refreshing to see City not try and kick fuck out of him! I love him

Neto - another really good cameo, actually looking an effective sub option now after a couple of months of that not being the case.

Vinagre - good as well, won a couple of corners and ran hard at a tiring defence.

Ref - thought he had a good game. He missed an early foul by Sterling on Traore, that aside what did he do wrong? (Edit - the non advantage was shit) Maybe could have been harsher on their keeper for time wasting - but few refs do.

Nuno - was patient, made the subs at the right time. Fully expected him to go 352 tonight, but he was right - of course [emoji4]

Pep - took off Aguero, KDB and Mahrez, the 3 players that could have really helped them run the game out and take the pressure off. He unlike Nuno was worrying about Sundays game too much.

What a win though, I never saw it coming at 2-0 especially as their shit housery started to kick in. We have an incredible belief in this squad - how much of that comes from how small it is? I don't want more than 2 coming in for January, with Vallejo going out.

Thought he was appalling. Foul on Traore first half, foul on Jimenez both ignored, the advantage was unforgivable. Raul had a shot in the second that was deflected behind and a goal kick awarded. I'm rewatching now so I'll add more I may see.
