Wolves 2 Man Utd 1 - verdict thread (League game)

We've scored a fair amount from corners this year tbf.

Why are Sky showing a highlights reel for Mike Dean and calling the red card he gave last night a memorable moment for him!! The oddest thing to celebrate. Maybe he should have held his red card in the air as if he was a cricketer getting a ton

All those "100 Premier League Goals" programs they run for Shearer and the like, I wonder if they're working on a "100 Premier League Red Cards" highlights program for Mike Dean ;)

I can see why Ole said he felt they did enough to win. In the opening 10 minutes alone they had two unmarked headers in the six yard box - one luckily straight at Patricio and I’ve still no idea how Lingard doesn’t power his header in the bottom corner. It looked to me like he thought he’d scored before he even headed it. The save in the second half from McTominey’s header was the best of the evening, though. I’d say those chances alone were all fairly clear cut, but they didn’t take any of them and we had a few chances of our own (Cav’s being the easiest) to even things up on that front.

I’m not really annoyed with anything Ole said, but Fletcher was ridiculously biased and was visibly upset/frustrated that Utd had lost. Big Matt Murray spoke about Wolves a lot but he was a lot more neutral with his comments.

I think if you are concentrating on just your chances created you can sound a bit like Saunders. Fletcher managed to take it up a notch or 5 by suggesting we sat there all game and got lucky. I haven't watched the game back yet but I am looking forward to watching the spell we had with the ball at 2-1 where we killed the game and had Utd running around and getting nowhere near us.

According to Pat Nevin, Fletcher took his frustrations out on Ole too. He apparently gave him a lecture for a good couple of minutes about where United went wrong in the game. Nevin said that he wished he took pictures of it.

I still don't understand why Jonny didn't shoot when clean through. Near post or across the keeper, either was a better option than that stupid back heel flick he did to the United defender

Probably because he is a bit shit when in front of goal

Because he's a full back?

He's a fucking professional footballer!

I don't know one Sunday League full back who wouldn't have had a crack at that and I include myself! :icon_lol:

Agreed - best option there was to just hit it hard and low across the keeper. Best case scenario- he scores. Worst case - keeper saves it and it rebounds out to one of our other players to stick it in the empty net. Unfortunately he had a bit of a nosebleed moment and didn’t do either. I was more frustrated with Cav trying to rip the net off the goal, though. Just side foot it in to the bottom corner and kill the game.

You'd have swung a leg at it and De Gea would've thrown his cap on it.

I thought Cav was unfortunate, without the bobble that shot smashes the back of the net.

You don't know that... ;)

True it's probably more like...

Who cares what team we play, we compete and outwit the best consistently What underpins our success is our ability and organisation when we do not have the ball. We keep it well. By and large we effectively pass both short and long. Jota and Jimenez are nightmares to defend against and our break-play, our ability to mop up pressure and then quickly put us on the front foot gets the points on the board. The upgrade in our players and coach compared to recent seasons is phenomenal. The club needed an enema and it got one. Moutinho is a dream, he is just so capable, damn it I can even clap him when he fucks a corner up.

*Moot point - Rui must play Sunday.

The oddest moment for Mike Dean last night was when he bollocked Rui for kicking the ball when he could have caught it thinking it was a back pass.

Saïss was excellent in that spell. He's so good at just killing a game.

Yes, he seemed to be everywhere. Always available for a pass and able to move the ball safely onwards.

He's obviously been taking pointers from his brother Mathias (genuinely the worst footballer I've ever seen live).
