Wolves 2 Man Utd 1 - verdict thread (League game)

Why are Sky showing a highlights reel for Mike Dean and calling the red card he gave last night a memorable moment for him!! The oddest thing to celebrate. Maybe he should have held his red card in the air as if he was a cricketer getting a ton

There was a mention of him giving out his 100th yellow card in the PL I think.....

100th Red Card but Sky are treating as some sort of achievement in his life. As if all refs start out with the target of handing out 100 red cards in their career

He could be a bit more gracious in defeat TBQH. They definitely didn't deserve to win, he's talking shite there.

Just to pick up on this, I think this is being framed wrong

Actual quote

“A very good start, we should have been three up, and then we created our own downfall,” Solskjær said. “It was a very good performance until they scored the second goal. For 10 minutes after it was one each we seemed flustered but then we got back into it and but for their keeper we should have won this game.”

So he gives Rui credit. And tbf if they had gone 3-0 up, which wasn't completely out of the realms of possibility, they probably would've won. I don't have any issue with what he's said, oppo managers don't have to sing our praises when we win but equally he's not been dismissive or ignorant, just matter of fact.

In all honesty I think we've played a lot better than we did last night, which is a bit weird to say that we can beat Man Utd without being at our best (!) Defensively we got pulled all over the place early on (Nuno acknowledged they gave us problems with their tactics btw, I'm not making this up) - not sure who was more at fault early on but it seemed multiple players were a bit unsure of things or getting pulled out of position. I actually noticed Boly getting pulled out and/or chasing the ball a lot yesterday, in the end it didn't cause us too many problems but it does seem a tendency that he has (see the Gomes goal at Goodison for example)

Donck MotM for me, not sure he put a foot wrong all night.

Apart from the one Donck spannered over the bar from 4yards he was very good. But there's only one João Moutinho. He was faultless.

I thought we looked sluggish to start with but as we realised Fred was terrible and their formation was a mirror of our own we settled down and dominated for long spells of both halves.

Young was his 100th red card. Nobby Solano was his first. I thought Dean was good last night.

Yes, me too. Didnt make it all about him, and was consistently fair throughout the game.

It's a bloody great time to be a wolf.... came into work this morning, and the majority of lads here support Utd, and most of them have been very gracious and cant believe we have players of such quality playing for us. One neutral fan put a fiver on Watford and BTTS, and Wolves and BTTS, won over a hundred quid. He's walking around this morning saying Come on Wolves!!!

I think I'm in dreamland.

Very similar to the cup game. They started better for the first 20-25 minutes and looked like they would go on to win convincingly.

But as soon as they scored, we woke up and started playing and dominating the midfield. Moutinho and Jota were both immense. How fucking hard is Jota? He must be the most fouled player in the league. Get clattered multiple times every single game and just carries on/somehow never gets injured. The partnership with Jiminez is better and better every week.

Some incredible saves from Rui too. Interestingly, Nuno didn't play Ruddy today (remember in the match before the FA cup QF he got Ruddy some game time?).
Do we think Nuno will stick with his Cup goalkeeper, or will he switch to Rui? Would be very harsh on Ruddy, but at this stage of the tournament you have to play your best side.

Ruddy played 2 weeks before the Cup game. He was back out for the Chelsea game then week later then back in for the Cup

Ruddy will play on Sunday.

apart from the worst corner ever taken at Molineux of course...
Ha, that was right in front of me. The look of disgust on Jota's face was very funny.

Loved that Moutinho looked at the pitch as if it was down to that

I think that's a bit daft. De Gea is probably the best keeper on the planet. Pogba would relish playing in our midfield and Rashford would be great warming the bench (just for Tredman).

I think Dalot is going to be a very good player too.

Solskjaer's tactics were undone by his powderpuff midfield of Fred and McTominay. Lukaku hates a fight but went and stood on our biggest, baddest defender and Lingard's favourite band must be Queen as he was the Invisible Man.

Kenny beat me with the corner comment. However, as has been mentioned on other threads, solskjaer doesn't have it. The not being mourinho bounce has gone. He had a terrific run, but actually, tactically he is weak I think. He's a one way ticket to man utd being a mid table team full of overpriced or overpaid players. They will become more inconsistent, and their remaining games of the season will be a bit mix and match results wise. You nailed it last night when you raised the issue of Martial being brought on as the main striker. Also, agree on the woeful midfield combo, and his changes were like for like, and didn't impact the game at all.

I thought he was ok. First 20-25 mins I thought there were a couple of fouls he didn't give against man u and I couldn't understand why - the first young challenge, I thought Mctominay should've had a yellow, and whoever blocked off Vinagre first half (was that also McT?) didn't even get a foul. However I really liked Deans insistence that throw ins etc are taken from the correct place, and that needs to be adopted by a lot of other refs. From about 30 mins I think he got every decision correct though.

I was slightly disappointed we didn't get at Shaw more. He looks incredibly unfit and seems to have lost the ability to tackle. Might have been interesting to give Traore 10 minutes to get him, even Cav outpaced him once last night.

Why did we even do the short corners? Was it because Boly etc stayed back? I know they did on one, didn't notice rest.

Boly only stayed back when we were 2-1 up. I think we often do them to allow Moutinho a better angle to get the inswinging ball on to the goal.

It also freezes the defence so they have trouble with which runs to follow. I don't think we have a system that makes it work yet.

Corners are the one time when we miss Baz.
