Wolves 2-4 Leeds: Verdict Thread

He wasn't.

It was "tactical" that he wasn't there vs Spurs and then he was back a week later.

As per Keen that 'tactical' was because he was unhappy with his effort as sub the prior 2 games. Toti was on the bench then as he was on Saturday, it's not tactical

Point being that missing one week does not = he hates you and will never pick you again.

Hi All
Interesting thread, thought I would add a Leeds perspective on the game.
Talking points
  1. The possible penalty. In real time hard to see, looks like Firpo got the ball but in the replays you can tell he didn't. VAR may well have considered that this was not a clear and obvious error due to the speed it happened. Penalty if reviewed.
  2. Dawson, lucky but... for me the ref did well here allowing him that "warning" and the Wolves staff knew this hence subbed off
  3. Red card, all day. Surprised it wasn't given in real time but the fact that the ref was asked to go to the monitor means VAR thought this was a clear and obvious error
  4. Leeds 4th goal. For what its worth it was a free kick but we are all told at age of 7 "play to the whistle" Adama stopped, Leeds didn't= goal. I was surprised upon review that it wasn't chalked off maybe the ref agrees that Adama stopped playing with no whistle and felt that he still could have retained possession if he had kept playing. I have read on here that a few contributors think it was the kind of incident that happens regularly throughout matches, if they are all given game never gets going. And it was miles away from the Wolves goal.
Normally it us who are moaning about missed chances, today for once its not. It was a frantic game and for the neutral a really exciting match that had a bit of everything. Good luck moving forward and we need true football clubs like Wolverhampton Wanderers in the top division of English football so please stay up!!! Good luck.

My concern is there's too much focus on your first paragraph and not enough on the second. Yesterday looks worse because it comes off the back of the Newcastle debacle, but obsessing about refs isn't going to get us anywhere, I'm more refering to the team than on here. For the 2 decisions that went against us, 1 went for us, which the manager knows, hence subbing him off. Of the 3 real in real time that was the most blatent
Totally, we should focus on what we can control rather than what we can't.

JL is focussing too much on decisions. If that's what's happening behind closed doors too then it's a problem. Dare I say, it's a convenient excuse too.

The team can decide how to respond to poor decisions, at the moment it appears we aren't responding well.

We created chances but we are devoid of goal scorers

I was quite worried at the inclusion of Jonny and Podence. Jonny used to be good but now he is a bit of a liability and his hesitance to play the ball off got him sent off.

We have a lack of composure and moaning about the ref doesn't help.

Traore at least added a threat but he needs to man up and start using his strength. Late on when we were attacking he was really slow to get back onside stopping us playing the ball.

Podence is just fucking infuriating, in his head he thinks he's brilliant but he certainly isn't, everything he does is about him being the bollox.

We might go down but if we do it's our own fault and although Lage was shit we were in a good position a few weeks ago and I wasn't at all worried, I am still hopeful but it isn't comfortable. If we can just stay in the league we should be able to build for next year and not be having these conversations about relegation.

I don't know how many minutes were actually played and I don't blame Leeds for the time-wasting (because they got away with it).
I timed the injury in the 1st half and it in itself was 2 mins. I'd like to see a start stop clock introduced with the game finishing on 90. Even the ref telling them to hurry up costs time. The world cup injury times were huge because they wanted fans to actually see a football game not a load of pricks play acting. We are being ripped off with this shit. With a start stop clock it stops when the physios are called on to the resumption and var holds up the game at least fans in the ground would know wtf is going on.

All in all one of the most hard to watch matches ever and I still thought we had a chance to win with 10 men.

It's a cluster fuck of a goal, but it's Gomes who just let's Ayling wander off.
Semedo's man to begin with, he gets distracted by the man Neves loses and runs in the opposite direction to Ayling. Gomes is fire fighting at the end, not that he's really busting a gut to get there either. Sa half comes for something which doesn't look unreachable, Kilman sets himself to jump and then looks to back out.

I'm not sure there's a Wolves player in the box doing his job properly, you'd almost think that none of them know what they're supposed to do when you see so many get it wrong.

For what it's worth, I think both Kilman and Collins need to have someone organising them in defence but without Dawson they are both headless chickens. Not saying Kilman was great before Dawson was replaced but bit like before and after Coady, for all his limitations, the defence was much more organised when he was there throughout Nuno's tenure. I appreciate that Daws was on the tightrope, and was lucky to have survived the first half but the defence was far worse second half, moreso when we went a man down.

Hopefully the break has come at the right time and gives us time to take stock and regroup because we have looked clueless of late. Yesterday summed us up with the comically careless defending and constant missing of chances. No wonder we came away empty handed though we did look capable of an unlikely comeback after Cunha's goal.

Having watched endless replays I do think we should have had a pen for the challenge on Semedo though nowhere near as obvious as the Pope/Raul one. As for the 4th goal, the tug on Traore is minimal, yeah could have been given but it was pretty fanciful to think that they would rule the goal out for that. As someone else says, Traore actually manages to get back on the ball afterwards, loses it anyway and then gives up.

Quite depressing these past couple of games after looking like we were in with a good chance of pulling away we are now right back in the shit. Hopefully our players can regain their composure and pull off a few results in the remaining fixtures to save our status and then we can try and forget that this season ever happened!

On MOTD first, and Ashley Williams and Dion Dublin are agreeing with every decision the referee and VAR have made today. They think Lopetegui has gone too far with the complaints and that Dawson should have been sent off. So there’s that.
Not a single brain cell between them, so what do you expect?

Dion Dublin is a knobhead remember his co-comms when we played at Burnley during Covid behaved like it was soccer aid and every next sentence was a pun or joke.

I like Dublin but his punditry is non league standard at best, Williams I usually quite like, didn't see last night.

Sa needs to be replaced in the summer.
We need Lopetegui to raid his old club and bring in Bounou. But is all Sa’s indecisiveness and poor distribution down to him? Or is the faffing about passing it out from the back an instruction from the manager and backroom team?

Nunes isn't getting off this imo. Yes, he doesn't push him, but he's where he shouldn't be and that'll count against him. If he's not there, then there isn't contact. If it had been seen properly at the time then it's a yellow, I just don't see them overturning it

Think the Mitrovic card today will have an effect on the decision.

Where have they actually come to the conclusion to send him off?

Why are all these refs/officials the bullied at school types who now have to abuse their “power”. That’s a bullshit decision.
