Wolves 2-2 Spurs: EFL Cup 3rd Rd - Bah Lost on Penalties Verdict Thread

I still think Saiss could do a job as Neves' partner. But as it's never happened in the Prem I'll have to assume that the managers have a good reason not to do it.

I think with everyone fit I'd go with this:

Semedo Boly Kilman Aït-Nouri

Neves Moutinho

Trincão Podence Neto

Raúl

There's no reason why a squad with that strongest XI as a base couldn't finish top half. The obvious weaknesses are the Neves/Moutinho double pivot and the mess at centre half.
Personally I’d have donk over moutinho, and the 3 are interchangeable with what other options we have.

highlights where we need to strengthen, given that all of the spine (minus Sa) have been at the club since year 1 in the prem. who’d of thought, Ey.

Well, I think it would leak goals but if we get the old Raul and Neto back I'd be confident we'd be scoring a few aswell.

We played a back 5 yesterday and probably should have conceded 4.

In the second half where we “played well” Ruddy has made two huge saves and one good one, whilst to my knowledge Gollini made zero saves of note all game.

That ignored the fact they scored two and could easily have scored another 2 in the first half.

We'll leak goals in any formation because we don't have very good centre halves. We might score more with a 4, but concede even more. In that element it hasn't really evolved from the quandary Nuno had and failed to answer last year. All roads still lead to our shocking recruitment

I think a back four with a defensive midfielder is where we need to go. I don't see the point of Coady these days, he can't defend well in any situation. I see him as a luxury player because we have to build the team around ensuring his defensive fragilities are not exposed.

Ergo, I think we have a defender who isn't very good at defending.

Yeah and he can only pass it to WBs who can’t attack…

Whilst also limiting our options in the final third. He needs binning. Won’t happen though

Each to their own, but a few people jettisoning Adama from their teams for Trincao based on not a fat lot so far.

Still waiting for someone to give me a decent sample of games where we've left Adama out and excelled without him, as it's being made out to be a complete no-brainer...

Good to see someone has some humility!

I think people are more jettisoning him for Podence - he did look quite bright last night

I'd have Adama and Podence.

I'm with you on Adama

I don't think Trincao has the "fight" element to him that Podence & Neto have (and Jota had before Klopp came calling)

The 2018/19 season?

It's like the team's effectiveness is a blanket that's a bit too small, cover the attack with it and the defence gets cold, it's a catch 22 situation.

Just need to get Jota back and it'll be fine then!

I think I'll be waiting some time for a serious answer
Didn’t see a time frame in the question. If it’s any consolation to you I’m in the I’d play Adama camp as it stands.

I do think trincao could work quite well with Podence mind, as Podence seems to take up positions between the lines and trincao seems like a player who finds a pass rather than in the traore mould. With the wide players we have it’s all about finding the right combinations for certain circumstances.

from what I’ve seen all 4 of them have there part to play, as does Neto on his return

I want whatever works best for Wolves as a team, I'm not convinced that involves Traore being bottom of the pile so we can play with new toys like Hwang and Trincao. I think it's those two who are in the period of proving themselves

I agree with Pod forcing his way to the top of the pile, also agree they all have something to offer

Agree with all that. I like Adama as I’ve spent most of the day discussing on here 😂

thing is, we only see the matches, Lage will see training and whether trincao and hwang are proving themselves there maybe?

I wouldn’t be against if needed to playing hwang through the middle from what I’ve seen of him in Raul continues to struggle to rotate abit

My word Fabio Silva. “Give him 3 years and then we will turn a profit”. Honestly have a word with yourselves.

He slow, his touch is dreadful and he can’t pass. Even if he was the best player in the world it would be irrelevant as he’s too slow to actually have any effect at this level. League one then your nouse might count for something.

“he’s got great movement”. Does he fuck. He makes runs down the channels and in behind but as he has the pace of a slug rendering it useless.

My highlight of his ineptitude being when RAN had It on the left side and had a 1 v 1 against the FB. Silva then decides to make a run down the channel taking away all his space whilst at the Same time removing the only pass he had available. This guy is literally the best dribbler on the pitch and we’ve finally got him isolated against them in a good position with loads of space. Run the other direction, create some space, so when he likely does beat him he can square it to you for a tap in.

Fuck me. If he didn’t play we’d have probably won tonight. If we’d never signed him I’d wager we’d not be in the general mess we’ve been in for 12 months.
Have to agree at this stage.

I was optimistic when we signed Fabio, and willing to give him time to settle in. Hes only 19 and learning his trade in the toughest league in the world, but after watching him for a year now, I just dont think he has what it takes to make it at this level.
Very slow movement, poor technique- he cant control the ball, gets muscled off the ball easily, can't head it, cant finish and his reading of the game isnt good.

Last season was a steep learning curve with what we asked of him, he fell short and that's ok.
But this season, he looks like he hasnt progressed at all. He cannot hold up play, and his passing is shite. He doesnt suit the role we are asking him to play and I would like to see him in a 2 up front but nothing he has shown so far makes me think he could play in that formation either.
Compare him to some of the other 19yr olds like Greenwood, Sancho, Saka etc. Hes not even close to their level.

We need Mendes to get him a loan at a top European club and get him some exposure and then offload him while we can recoup at least half of his fee, because otherwise I can see.us making a huge loss on him

Eh? It's not a matter of 'jettisoning' Traore....or anyone else for that matter, we have a squad, the forwards is one area we have some options, we're not scoring, why not try something different? Dunno why every comment has to be so extreme
