Wolves 2-0 Southampton: Verdict Thread

I was told, Hennessey could score in the opposite goal from a goal kick with both feet.
Wouldn't surprise me, his kicking looked so effortless.

Where as both Stowell and Patricio's technique was poor so they looked like they were trying to kick the leather (synthetic plastic) off the ball.

Speaking of which, we made the best of RP's limited kicking by getting him to smash it to Donk or Doherty, we should have done similar earlier with Sa.

Sa's kicking is weird. It actually looked like a strength when he first signed. Releasing Adama quickly and got an assist for Raul at Southampton.

Then gradually turned into Lonergan.

He is really quick to look for an opening and release it - good
But that's often his downfall because he rushes and then fucks it up - bad

Liverpool at home was a good example when Robertson scored.

I’m unsupportive of anything that gives GON more contact time with the playing staff. Even if Cunha thinks he’s ace.

Im not sure if we do this because Sa’s kicking is shit or if it’s because GON’s tactics are shit but it’s pathetic and a U12 coach wouldn’t have it.

Sure Dan has posted a very similar image on here before - can't remember who the manager would've been then though.

What should I be aghast at in that? No snark.

I had the infamous one where we were drawing 0-0 vs McDons under Ken with 5 to go

That is literally it every single goal kick. We hoof it to Strand, occasional he gets a flick that no one reaches. I’m pretty sure every single goal kick on Saturday like resulted in us giving possession away.

Similar under Nuno in the PL wasn't it. 99% of kicks aimed at Donk and Doc and everyone tucked into the same area of the pitch

Since Sa came back in, there's an instruction not to play out from the back as much as possible.

Aye, I see.

Looking again it seems odd how lopsided our compressed shape is. Absolutely nobody in the left channel.

I’m all up for GON criticism but that is an entirely standard setup for a long goal kick aimed at one side of the pitch. Perhaps we’ve all got used to short passes from goal kicks, but 5 years ago you’d see that sort of shape 10 times a game.

Agreed so clearly it is all about the second ball which makes it all the more bafling that when we get a free kick, and an opportunity to get it into the opposition box, we rarely take it unless late in the game. I know we aren't the only side that prefers the 2 yard pass sideways or backwards but it infuriates me that we try this delicate passing game from a position where we could pose a real threat on goal.
