Wolves 2-0 Southampton: Verdict Thread

Unbeaten in 3...the PLAN is working.

Enjoy the win, enjoy not being bottom and come back in a few days to discuss the obvious papering over the cracks.

This is it for me, I'd add a clean sheet too. Deeper analysis for another day (for me)

Really frustrating for me, travelling from the south coast to the game, my train was cancelled at Reading (of all places) due to signalling problems up the line.

I gave up in the end and went home to the pub. So disappointed at missing the game.

Good win. It’s all that matters at present.

I like Gary O’Neil. He will be a successful manager I think, possibly not in the EPL, where he is inexperienced, but for now we need to back him and the players as much as we can.

For me that is what supporting the club in adversity is all about and I don’t care much what anyone makes of that.
I got turned around at Reading too. Make sure you get your refund. Maybe not through the app, it won't issue a full refund.

Oh yeah - happy birthday mate!’
If I’d joined as YoungAlanUSA it would no longer apply!

Speaking of, I’m calling shenanigans on you, Louie. If I’m old, I’m taking you down with me!

Had this discussion on the build up thread. I agree GON will take us down, we have a better chance of staying up with 3 points today than him being sacked though. We'd appoint a Lampard, Edwards type probably not in time for Fulham and have 3 points less. If you guaranteed me a Potter I'd have taken a defeat, but I don't think he'd touch us.

Fair enough. I want Moyes for now, but I do fear Hobbs would go the Edwards route which would be quite astonishing

Delighted with the win and it makes a Saturday night enjoyable for a change.
Glaring problems with his use of the squad/formations but I’ll keep praying that he’ll find a magic formula as I don’t think a change is likely now for a couple of weeks at least.

Didn't like Ramsdale....was preparing myself to have to try and like him but luckily we are bastard oddballs at spending money....after his reaction to the 2nd goal.....fuck off son.

Yeah it might be a foul, but cut the amateur dramatics lad. You look like a twat.

Check back later for more great comments you won't get on MOTD

He's a prick. The decision is totally inconsistent though. All that said, it's proving to be as strange a move for him as it seemed at the time. 3rd relegation incoming.

Today confirmed that Cunha is our one hope of staying up whilst Southampton have no hope.

Sa - nothing to do apart from play injured once a half
Semedo - left exposed in the first half when they had a lot of decent possession down his side
RAN - some great touches and dribbling offset by an equal amount of poor decision making
Bueno - steady
Dawson - excellent
Lemina - ok but still prone to giving away possession in dangerous areas
Gomes - getting back to his best which is great news
Sarabia - great finish, thereafter quiet
Cunha - MOTM. Offers a threat against anyone. Enjoy him while you can as he'll be gone in the summer
Strand Larsen - practically no service but worked hard

Bellegard - great commitment with little quality

One moment in the first half summed us up. Semedo let a ball go out of play inside their half when he had plenty of time to control it. We had players forward and could easily have developed an attack. From the throw we lost the ball and never had controlled possession again until they scored and VAR saved us.

1st one was an instruction from the bench as GO wanted a catch up with the players. 2nd was genuine, landed hard on his shoulder
I know I was a bit harsh but he did milk it.

Having been on the fence I'm fully aboard the GON out train now. That first half wasn't acceptable. Zero control, no pressing, just stand off them and watch them knock it around, whilst Lemina dropped so deep he could have held hands with Dawson and Bueno. I understand why, because RAN can't be arsed to get back and Toti and Dawson have to shift over to cover, but that still doesn't explain the lack of pressing and amount of defensive disorganisation there constantly is.

Good opening goal though. Some nice interplay and a good first touch and finish from Sarabia, who unfortunately reverted to type after that.

Second half was better. Lemina and the entire defence was told to push out more and we actually pressed once or twice too. When that 2nd goal went in the game was over. Southampton were extremely poor and barely threatened our goal other than set-pieces, which we defended much better. Lemina has been told to mark the back post which is definitely better than no-one.

That first half was eye bleedingly bad though. Any decent side would have put 2 or 3 past us, so that's why he still has to go for me. We're not going to be able to rely on shite opponents and wonder strikes from Cunha every week.

Cunha MOTM for me.

I still think he's a dimwitted PE teacher out of his depth, one result doesn't change my opinion same as it doesn't change how the ownership see him.

At the same time... a win is good. A clean sheet is good. I don't dislike Russell Martin as much as others but he's coaching his team in a way that isn't tenable and Saints players aren't near good enough to play in a sustainable manner. They are the only team worse than us IMO. Not an amazing performance but had some quality to get the win.

Bare minimum of a result today. We were terrible but Southampton were worse.

O'Neil.

“I have said we may lack quality in moments and we did today really, apart from Matheus. His two real moments of quality were massive for us because the rest of the group showed real fight, real togetherness and real spirit. But without that little bit of magic to unlock the door a couple of times, it would have been a tough afternoon.”

So basically admits apart from Cunha we're shit, he's shit and we're not going to win any games without magic from one player.

Fuck him off!

That's two games in a row now that we've picked up no bookings. That happens when you don't press or make many tackles though!
