Wolves 1-3 Manchester City Verdict Thread

Fire away.

Made to look average by a fantastic team.......end of :)

Pretty much. Still think it would have ended very different if we hadn’t given the pen away - Marcel was a big loss too.

Donk should definitely have started too.

Next game should hopefully be very different.

I don't think we can play Moutinho and Neves in a midfield two anymore after that.

Individually, they're still generally sublime. Together, without a third, they just don't cover enough ground or mark tightly enough.

We were pretty rubbish first half. Much improved after the break but wasteful with our chances. No disgrace in the end but a bit frustrating.

City had our pants down in the first half- we couldn’t have complained if we’d have been totally out of sight by halftime.

Much better second half- have to put a few of the gilt-edged chances away, but we created some quality, and it was a great goal. Didn’t deserve anything out of it, though, and the system simply doesn’t work with the personnel we (currently) have. Putting Adama at RWB is like trying to use a Caterham to pull a caravan- it’s a total waste of his skills, and everything else in the team was pulled out of whack as a result.

It’d have been a different ball game had Saiss not lost his mind for the penalty, though.

Would agree about the midfield - sentimentality here could hold us back.

Vinagre just over-complicates everything. Why pass after 4 step overs when you could take 6 and mess it up? Why cross when you could attempt to pull it back, right in to that defender whose been chasing you? Frustrating he hasn't progressed past that yet.

We were poor in the first half but to give City their due they looked at their very best. Really promising in the second half. If it hadn't been for Saiss moment we'd have had every opportunity to nick 2-1. Hoping chance conversion improves this season because that's still the weight around us at the moment.

Completely bossed in the first half could/should have gone in front in the second half. Definitely didn’t deserve a third against us. Big run of games coming up and things will get better, we’ll win a lot more than we lose this season.

352 would have been better than 343.

Their passing and movement was so good we couldn't get near them.

Adama and Podence looked effective going forward as did Neto.

I hope Marcal is back soon if only to hold down the left flank

Dare I say it, Moutinho looks like he's on the dreaded decline.

ridiculous penalty for the first and unlucky bounce for the 3rd. terrible first half and numerous missed chances in the 2nd

not gonna beat city like that. good to see improvement in the later stages. on to the next.

Coady, Boly, Saiss, Vinagre, Moutinho - all way off the pace tonight. Distribution from the back three appalling. Vinagre not good enough. Concerned with the Marcal injury - I wouldn’t want to see Vinny as our only fit LWB.

Traore was appalling in the first half but was playing out of position. Hopefully this puts the “calculated risk” argument to bed. We should never have been going in to two competitive PL games with him as our only option at RWB. Thankfully Semedo sounds done and he will improve us hugely. To be fair to Adama he improved massively in the second half when he went further up the pitch (not rocket science) and he put one on a plate for Raul who would normally finish it, and another nice cross for Podence.

Podence and Neto were fairly anonymous in the first half but both did well in the second half. Podence sidefoots the one on one rather than trying an outrageous chip and we’re celebrating a draw.

City at times were fantastic but they were 3 x players away from their strongest 11 tonight. Sterling is a cheating little wanker. How has the ref not booked him for that dive and it hasn’t been mentioned once on sky yet.

I’d agree with this. Especially in games when we are only going to have 30-40% possession as they don’t have the legs.

Gulf in class first half couldn’t get near them. 2nd half much improved and unlucky almost not to get something out of the game with the chances we had. Positives to take away from it though. Our season won’t be defined by how we get on against city and Liverpool.

Get a right back in and the balance of the team looks totally different. Not saying traore was the worst player by any means, but having him at RWB causes boly to be more vulnerable as well and seems to effect the whole defence with that. Some of our best stuff going forward started with traore however. Get him on the ball firther up the pitch and when he loses the ball taking players on we’re more solid to recover.

Onwards and upwards to 3 points against the hammers. They were the sort of teams we should be looking for a 6 point return on

I was wondering if Moutinho and Neves were done as a pair after last week - not sure if it was a fitness issue with Neves at that point. But Mou and Donck combined well. We've seen Donck and Neves combine well as a 2. I think it's valid to question if Mou and Neves can play as a 2 in a game like this, where they are outnumbered and against a team that are really, really good at moving the ball. Against other teams, sure, I think we can still play them as a pair. But we needed Donck's energy tonight.

I know Neto was dropping in a lot to cover but he isn't and never will be a CM - and I don't think it's the best use of him to do that.

Not sure what happened to Marcal which is a shame as it would've been interesting to see how he coped.

Spiers reckons Semedo should be done tomorrow, so we can put the Traore as a WB experiment to bed now I think. Defensively suspect but equally he did well going forwards 2nd half.

Frustrating as were it not for a boneheaded decision by Saiss it could've been different - but ultimately they were looking likely to score anyway. We were a lot better going forwards 2nd half and created enough to snatch a draw, however undeserved.

Unlike us to be that slack defensively but it's a world class team we're up against, so it's hard to be too upset.

Moutinho had a stinker but their midfield was just too good. One bad game in how many doesn’t mean he’s losing it yet.

City were bloody brilliant, 3-1 was a fair result. Completely outplayed first half, far better second. Lovely move for our goal, and we had some really good chances in the second half - Raul should have scored from Traores cutback, and pod should have done better when he tried to chip the keeper, so gives us hope for the future.

Get semedo in, and we can really push on in the next few games - city was always a tough match, they’re a great side.

I think they have sublime moments, Alan, but as a two they're simply not mobile enough. I think it's perfectly valid to have the 'Moutinho conversation' and - apart from the odd lovely pass - right now he looks to me like a player who needs upgrading. Bring back GFFH's Soumare rumour...

Moutinho was great against Sheffield United, but not quite at it tonight against a sublime City side.

Writing him off now is a bit premature though. He’ll be excellent for us this season

Agree with this. I love Moutinho and he can still play at this level. I just think he (and Neves) need a complimentary partner. Unfortunately, in a 3-4-3, I think that means one of them has to sit, at least against this kind of opposition.
