Wolves 1-1 Newcastle: Verdict Thread

If I was asked to do my job differently I’d probably struggle for 2-4 weeks after doing it the same way for 5-6 years. I might just be stupid though 🤣
I’d love to know what he asked Podence to do today!

The starting 11 today only 4 we’re playing regular in our first top flight season. Also don’t under estimate player’s ability to adapt to a knew system they’re not being asked to play in completely alien positions.
I don’t like Eddie Howe but look how he quickly turned Newcastle on their head from years of Bruce’s and Benitez in charge.

If we don't beat Bournemouth then that should be is last game.

All fair comments mate and I’m not for one second saying Bruno isn’t to blame or isn’t due some stick, he’s got a bit of time with me due to bedding in a new system I think but as Bear said it’s a results game.

If that's what he wanted to do then he could have tried at the back end of last season. We were losing all the time anyway. What were we going to do, get less than 0 points?

He didn't, he did nothing.

So, Liverpool put 9 past the team that we play next...
Is that more pressure on us, do we know, can we remember how to kick someone whilst they're down?
Or will we misfire and put it down to them reacting from their wounded pride?
Does Lage know how to extend a good first half into the next 45'?
I enjoyed watching the first half, a lot more balls played forward that forever sideways like I'm used to watching, but I accept that's hardly nose bleeding excitement...

This is why the end of last season can’t just be erased from his record like some like to do.

Just realised that my strap line written a few years ago, could be Lage's personal quote...

Its catch 22 we’re desperate for points but it then means it probably kicks the can down the road for another 5 games for Bruno.
Reality is if never want us to lose to get a managers sacked.

I dunno. If you could have guaranteed me at the time that Newcastle score this free kick and he's sacked, I'd have had to have a serious think about it.

Only dropping 1 point so not as bad, even if he loses Wednesday he probably survives until Saturday.

Where I do agree with Mark is that the Board are responsible for an avoidable situation. To sleepwalk into a position where we evidently need to make a change now when this could and should have been done to give the new guy a full pre-season is a shambles.

I’m also completely perplexed by the idea that he’s doing the right thing but, despite that, purely the logic of results dictates he might be in trouble. At no stage has he demonstrated any ability to lead change and take people with him: the basic requirements of senior management. I see no evidence whatsoever for any of this to emerge with time. A series of freak results last season kept him in a job he’s patently out of his depth in.

I now seem to want the impossible - enough discernment at Board level to see we need change without being absolutely nailed to the bottom of the division. I love Wolves but if you’d have guaranteed me that Lage would be gone with a defeat I would absolutely have taken that deal, 100%. Awful I know.

First live game I've seen in the flesh today, and looking at it, our problems surely lie with the manager rather than players.

That first XI is good, several of then (Semedo, Collins, Jonny, Neves mainly) played well but we just don't work as a team, especially when we attack. So slow and ponderous where we need to be quick and incisive.

Are we a counter - attacking team or a possession based team? Cos we saw precious little of the ball (and wasted much of what we had with it) so we can't be the latter, and our counter attacks are generally totally ineffective, so it begs the question, how do we think we're going to score, and win games? Especially as we're not going to get as many clean sheets with a back 4.

We don't need a manager who can't win, not with these players. 4 pts minimum next two games or I'll vote for change

Disappointed in Boly. That’s not good from the big man and more or less guarantees his time at Wolves is over. Regardless of whether or not he thinks he should be in the starting 11, that’s poor and you just don’t do that to your teammates. Let alone the fact the club has paid you thousands of pounds and a large chunk of that is when he’s been injured. Massive shame that his time at Wolves ends with a bitter taste in the mouth.

As for Lage, I wanted him gone at the end of last season. When he didn’t & we backed him heavily this window (although it’s boarding on gross negligence that we still haven’t signed a forward), I was willing to give him some time to get a tune of the squad - but today has done it for me. 4 games without a win this season. Sat firmly in the relegation zone with games against Liverpool, Man City & Chelsea on the horizon. Still absolutely no idea what our plan is on the pitch when it comes to scoring goals. We don’t score today without Neves hitting a worldly. His substitutions are weird and/or late. We’ve never any hope in getting back in to a game when we go behind, and we don’t appear to be able to hold on to a lead anymore. If we could see some plan or progress - but we can’t.

Nothing sits right with me at the moment.

Jimenez is more interested in coming up with wacky celebrations than putting in the work to get back to his previous levels.

Jonny doesn’t seem right since rumours of him falling out with Bruno.

Traore doesn’t want to be here.

Boly decides to hit the shops instead of turning up for work.

Binned off and sold likeable big characters in the dressing room.

Neto is way off his best.

I’m extremely concerned about where this season is going while Lage remains in charge. He looks completely out of his depth and has ran out of ideas (if he had any to begin with!).

Is this in part though because other managers are making use of the 5 sub rule to refresh half the team...... whereas Bruno sits on his hands running our players into the ground. The subs today were to late and too cowardly. Howe completely done him in that second half today

I'm not sure that makes a massive difference. We were blowing after 55 mins, I don't think they'd made any subs at that point.
