Wolves 1-0 West Ham: Verdict Thread

My initial reaction was that it was a massive slice, after watching again I'm inclined to think he meant it. I'd like to think he did anyway.
I'm hoping there will be a hilights package that shows it in more detail, slow mo's and multiple angles

I thought it looked intentional at first but the highlights don't show him looking to his right so I think he was shooting, backed out ever so slightly because of the defender's pressure and sliced it.

He doesn't need to look to know that Moutinho is still in that position, he'd just taken a corner.

This was my first thought. He does swing at it but could be disguise. I'm more likely to believe he meant it based on him playing that kind of pass previously.

I am amazed that any Wolves fan, who would be so profoundly aware of Neves's ability would ever think that's a truly awful shot, rather than a truly brilliant pass.

Hang your heads in shame.

Always more fun to give "passes" like that the benefit of the doubt.

I'm still not convinced that Papiss Cisse's ridiculous outward curler for Newcastle against Chelsea (I think?) a few years back was meant as a shot but it's just so much more entertaining if you accept it as one.

Still think it was a great performance by all the players, although did swear at Raul for shooting instead of passing.
Interesting regarding the wing back discussion going on here, that in Lage's article on the wolves page, he says he told the wing backs to cut inside more, and that after watching the game two and a half times is whatbtyhey did.
If semedo gets one I back him to get at least half a dozen, and Ran is twice the player he was last season, both defended well and Ran on free kicks and corners is excellent,(sorry Alan).
Now for Burnley and Norwich.

As mentioned before the only thing I couldn't get my head round was why didn't Adama pass it? He had a player free either side of him, have we now created a monster that is so desperate to impress he does things like that?

TBF we've seen a lot of his shots over the last couple of seasons..

And they may have gone high or wide, i've never seen him entirely slicing one in the way he would have for that "shot"

Stop disrespecting the man.

I'm sure he's reconsidering his life-objectives as some random on the internet has said that, mostly, his long shots have been poor for the last 2 years.

part of why i asked peoples views is half the south bank groaned initially.
he meant it, I am convinced. But lots who watch him regularly were fooled by his disguising it.

adama had received 3 or 4 hits during his run. the adrenaline was pumping, and he most likely have tunnel vision. in the heat of the moment he was head down and heading for the goal. probably unaware of what was around him.

He needs to be more aware in those situations but you can understand why he's done it. All of the above that LJ has mentioned, plus a decline in his playing time; he seems desperate to live up to his own potential.

He likely won't reach anything close to it in his career, but IMO he goes about things the right way and that's more than can be said for a lot of mercurial talents like him.

They haven't been as bad as THAT though, which is exactly what i'm saying.

In fact, i doubt we have seen a "shot" as bad as that since Mo Camara smashed it into Asda car park against Blues (?)

We've seen Neves in situations like that countless times, and he has picked out the pass, be it Besiktas for Boly, Podence against Villa, or indeed Moutinho on Saturday, i can't remember him getting a shot as wrong as that ever though, so all logic and a bit of faith in one our best players suggests it was a pass, not a shot.

I'm amazed that any Wolves fan who watches him regularly could think otherwise, if it was Dendoncker i'd understand, this is Neves, one of the most technically gifted players we've ever had. Have you forgotten those passes above, or even the one to Costa against Burton, or out wide threaded between players against Leicester in the 4-3?

Of course he meant it.

I’ve not commented whether I think it was a shot or a pass. I don’t know, but getting on a high horse about it is rather weird.

High horse?

It's a message board, a place for discussion.

It's you that is being dismissive of my opinion with your flippant comments.

Where as i am giving you examples and an argument as to why it was a pass rather than shot? If that's being on my "high horse" then we may as well close this place down.

Mikey Burrows called it a pass on commentary immediately.

I've just watched the highlights on wolves. He 100% means it, the body shape he takes as he makes contact wouldn't be right for a shot, he doesn't put his foot through it either just strokes it with the outside of his foot. Beautiful.

Only Neves could disguise a pass to the extent it's still being argued about 3 days later.
