Wolves 1-0 Burnley: Verdict Thread

I'm used to ITV comms which is constant inane prattle - didn't think it was close to that. Also the pre-match build up was all on our game, not a prelude to one of the 'Big 6' etc. I thought it was decent.

Yeah the sub graphic thing was mentioned too often, I'll concede that. We should blame the 22 players on the pitch for not creating enough excitement to talk about!
Yeah I think Amazon's general coverage is pretty good, as you say it was purely focused on our game, which is great. The pre match interview with GON was really good too.

Oh and how fucking Ted Lasso was Kompany's "Believe" flag in their dressing room :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

I did enjoy the comms trying to build up excitement - First shot in 20 mins "Now Burnley are motoring"....nothing happens for the next 15 mins

Don't mind Dan Walker, the 2 on comms were mildly irritating in that they spoke too much, the great thing with Amazon is you can turn them off.
Don't agree with Carrotdude about Gomes having a mare, not his best game but he was immense in his tackling and turnovers.
Maybe Traore a bit earlier? Not the type of game for Doyles attributes imo.

In terms of them “only talking about our game”, that’s because

A) they’re broadcasting every game individually so it allows them to focus all their attention on the match in hand

B) they only had 30 minutes to fill before the match started. Sometimes with Sky, particularly their flagship shows, they’ve got 1.5 hours to fill out before kick off!

The female co-comms, other than talking constantly, was inconsistent. Berge wiped out Bueno in a shoulder to shoulder coming together & she was suggesting it wasn’t a foul, then changed her mind to say Hugo was at fault! Then at the other end a few minutes later Lemina does the same thing and she’s expressing her surprise at how he’s not been booked. She wasn’t great, but not many are.

I should have added that Sasa would have been another sub to make to help hold the ball up.

We were sluggish and needed an outball. Doyle would have been our best option for doing that.
I could see that as a double sub and I thought subbing Sarabia was the wrong thing to do, he looked genuinely disappointed.

On that one she was expressing surprise Lemina was booked but balanced it with she didn't think Berger's was either but as he was booked Mario was always getting one

A) obviously, but that's a good thing.

B) yep.

Lemina was booked for that shoulder barge wasn't he?

I kind of got what she was saying there though, Lemina's was more 'shoulder to back/side' than to shoulder, and on the replay the Berge/Bueno one could've been viewed as more of a tangle

There was a lot of space to be exploited with them pushing forwards on our right, the additional pace of Bellegrande could have worked well.

Bellegarde on our left might have worked but I thought it should've been for Hwang and Sasa for Cunha.

We need them both fit for the weekend and GoN ran them into the ground last night. I thought that was poor.

Yeah I wasn't happy about it being given as a foul in real time, but he (Lemina) just mistimed the shoulder movement and it ended up being into the back rather than shoulder to shoulder. If it's a foul (which, in retrospect, it was) then given the area of the pitch I guess a yellow is fair.

I do wish they'd revise upwards the number of yellows that gives rise to a suspension, though - yellow cards are handed out like confetti these days.

Just another little helping hand towards the bigger clubs. Those with the larger squads can affords to miss players for a game or two before you even contemplate the conspiracy theories into whether or not the bigger named players thresholds for being booked are at a higher level than others.

I quite like Amazon's coverage. Although, that's probably something to do with the fact that I subscribe to Prime and not Sky/TNT so I enjoy getting to watch the match properly.

I'm with Langers, unless it is somebody truly abysmal like Matterface, then I don't get too worked up about commentators/co-commentators. I don't pay them too much attention tbh. Dan Walker is ok as a footy presenter too, as long as I forget about his creationism beliefs.

There's been 21 players suspended this season for totting up, 4 of them were ours. Not really making a point just sharing the stat. We have 2 more a game off, one of which hasn't really played the last 3 games

I thought burnley were pretty organised. Actually they looked quite difficult to break down, but equally don't look like scoring either.

I thought Sarabia did well, as did Lemina, and Toti again had a good game.

What we lacked was someone to run at Burnley. Their organisation meant finding a pass was exceptionally difficult. We needed someone to run at them, take on and beat a player which of necessity creates space.

I thought Bellegarde was the right sub, but this was too late, as he is capable of this. Cunha is the main central target so can't really do it, Neto and RAN are out, and Bueno (H) is returning from injury. Doyle would not have fixed this issue.

@Aikiwolf was bang on early in the thread with his assessment. we were too slow in possession, taking 2-3 touches instead of one, meaning burnley had time to adjust or be organised.

Kilman made an early step forward with the ball which I think led to a booking. I can understand the safety first approach however I think that this would have been a better way of opening them up. Hwang and Cunha were tightly marked and it took an age to open them up on the flanks although the longer crossfield balls became more successful as the game wore on.

Don't think he did, as he was booked in the 2nd half for leaving a trailing leg when burnley were attacking the NB?
Kilman did venture forwards a few times.
In the 1st half we tried playing out from the back, but the slow-ness, taking 2/3/4 touches, and the lack of movement resulted in us risking playing into burnleys hands.

I get that movement can be late as it gives the defender less time to react but watching Arsenal on Saturday and Spurs last week they always have somebody on the move even if it is to mask the actual target.

Standing still and going late is one dimension and frustrates me and I know it's personal to me.
