Wolves 1-0 Burnley: The 1-0 massacre Verdict Thread

Well that was brilliant, the best game I've been to in......cant remember the last time we played so well, every player was superb, defended comfortably, dominated midfield and a joy to watch our attacking play ( even if we were wasteful in front of goal. Our pressing was terrific and lead to our goal with Neves, Moutinho and especially Costa not giving Burnley's midfield a minutes peace.
Had been looking especially forward to see the new boys, Moutinho, Jiminez and Jonny and boy was I impressed, don't think Jonny put a foot wrong and Jiminez worked his bollocks off, was good in the air, plus his link play was good, glad he got on the scoresheet. Moutinho is simply a class act, completely bossed the midfield along with Neves.
Thought the atmosphere was really good, the Burnley fans playing their part even though they were getting tonked.
Can't wait for the next one.

A very enjoyable and dominant performance but the finishing was so wasteful today, just glad we didn't pay the price at the end. At times I wondered if Joe Hart had put a sheet of perspex in his goalmouth. He did have a good game though and I questioned at times how we didn't score.

Moutinho was top drawer again, he makes it all look so effortless, to see a player of his quality in a gold shirt is a privilege. Thought Neves not at his best today. Boly was another showing great quality, defending with ease and is play linking defence and attack was again very good. Jonny was involved in some great moves, his pass to Jota in the box in the second half was excellent and deserved a goal.

I think 4-0 would have been a pretty fair reflection of our performance.

Happy though, that's 2 wins and 2 clean sheets on the bounce and its 5 performances now where we haven't looked at all out of place at this level, watching this team more than hold its own in the Premier League makes me immensely proud.

Good game, shocking finishing, lots of good blocking ftom Burnley though. Doc was brilliant, nice assist and excellent runs. Midfielders ran the show, defenders solid, forwards still a bit hit and miss. Leo has zero confidence atm.

delighted with that. important to win today and gives confidence going into next week. was listening to the game on the beach as on hols. got some funny looks when we scored.

Top performance and really 6-0 would have been a fair result. Not going to worry about missed chances would be far more concerned if weren’t creating.
Burnley about as bad a top flight team I’ve seen here.

Total domination. Against a team that qualified for Europe. Let that sink in... Hard to pick out individuals from such a fantastic performance, but I will anyway. Doherty, Jonny, Boly and Moutinho in a 4 way tie for MOTM. Jota and Costa both had their best performances in the PL. Raul is a superb player in our system, he works so hard, his control and link up play is top notch and I think he has a shot at a 10-15 goal season which is more than good enough at this level. Bennett is as solid as it gets and if Tarkowski can get an England call up I see absolutely no reason why both he and Coady don't get at least some consideration from Southgate.

All in all I think we are going to do more than enough to survive, finishing top 10 is quite likely. Heck, I believe we can even get a result at Old Trafford if we play like that...

Magnificent. WE HAVE ARRIVED.

Honestly we were tremendous. 5 or 6 wouldn't have flattered us and Burnley just could live with us. So many players hit top form and it was a joy to watch.

MOTM is so hard to choose. Jonny was superb, as was Moutinho, as was Neves, as was Costa. But I think I have to give the award to Matt Doherty. I never thought I would be giving him an award, but he deserves it today. Chapeau Matt. Fucking well done.

Now to get pissed and look forward to MOTD2.

Like JD I'm not going to worry about missed chancers. They even out over a season and we're going to have a game where we have 5 shots on target and score 4. Christ, I think Jonny is good. Nothing flashy, just a Champions League defender. Apart from Man City against Huddersfield no team has had that many shots in the Prem this season or touches in the oppo box. We looked about three leagues above Burnley - who finished 7th last year FFS. And I'll be disappointed if we don't get something at OT next week: think this team is that good. (Except poor old Leo, who really can't be given more than 2/10)

This time round we're a proper PL team. Burnley will be relegation fodder on this showing but we did exactly what a decent side should and looked a class above. How many touches did Rui have? Two? Nice take from Jimenez, but he should have done better with the one that he blazed over the bar. That's a couple in the last two he should have done better with; hope that doesn't become a trend. Jota doesn't look the same player this season, though I don't know whether that's because he's playing with or against a better standard of teammate/opposition. (Certainly not the latter today.) Costa looked encouragingly strong in a couple of challenges. I don't think anyone had a bad game today. Sometimes they just don't go in, and Hart played a blinder. We're a terrific side to watch these days.

Jota was really good today. Costa is back too. And we have Cav and Traore.

It's fucking mental really.

Thought Jonny was excellent today, maybe even MOTM (I know Doc got it, and he was very good). He has been a bit hesitant in attacking at some points previously but today he was fearless, at times in the 2nd half he was playing inside left with Jota stood on the wing! Lennon never got a sniff against him and he's going to take some replacing.

Bennett was excellent again, as was Coady. Hell they were all excellent to varying degrees...aside from Leo :shake: Been a defender of his but his confidence just looked shot today, which was surprising given his last couple weeks. Hope he can rebound from this, but to be honest, as much as he didn't play that great, Raul is making him look bad in comparison. His workrate in particular puts Leo in the shade - he just looks fitter and sharper.

We played better again today than we have previously. Nuno keeps saying he wants improvement game by game and he's getting it, the early season nerves and apprehension have almost all gone (still think Jota looks like he's trying a bit too hard) and you can see the team gelling and getting increasingly more confident. Next week will be a *very* interesting test.

Burnley getting pelters for being crap but personally think it was more us being so good, as I said earlier, Jonny was outstanding but I was surprised how good he was going forward.....think he might turn out to be my fav player of the season.....or Moutinho.....or Jiminez......or any one of any of them

It's an interesting tactic with our wingbacks, at West Ham Doc was clearly playing as an inside fwd at times (as he did for the first 15 mins today) but it was then obvious we switched to Jonny playing as an IF. With the central midfielders dropping into the wingback role to cover.

Must be tricky to defend against as it's unusual to say the least!

Yes Costa was good today and won the ball back in some tight spaces on more than one occasion, but his first touch let him down a few times. That 1st half chance where he was in space at the edge of the area, he needed an extra touch which allowed Burnley to close him down, and he then moved the ball out wide into the area to try fashion a chance for himself when there was a pass on.

Absolutely played them off the park. Doherty was superb.

HOWEVER, we simply *have* to start putting more of these chances away.

I feel like Deutsch. Yeah, great getting forward, but his final ball was awful.

Why get forward if you can’t put a ball in the box?

I thought his final ball was pretty decent today. Burnley just defended most of them pretty well. He was certainly the best player on the pitch in terms of balls into the box IMO.
