Wolves 0-3 Brighton: Verdict Thread

He's not been wholly terrible like Lampard or Gerrard who are genuinely clueless. He's nowhere near as bad as Bruce. And at times we've played some really good stuff. We haven't been atrocious all season at all.

Since the end of February we've stunk the place out and it's clear he's not a manager but a coach, a sort of deluxe caretaker.

I'd be happy if he went too but he can take Sellars and that cunt Shi with him.
I don't think he's much of a coach either, how has our play developed over the season (it hasn't), he can't get a tune out of any attacking players, he doesn't play the youth.

I'm furious to be honest, that was an absolutely atrocious display, the two preceding it weren't much better, he's come out with more total shit just blaming the players, I can see no basis whatsoever for keeping him.

End result isn't really any different to Morgan picking Saunders from his golf buddies' advice or any other chairman picking whoever he fancies at any given time. Only difference is Mendes not being a club employee but the alternative is Shi and/or Sellars picking and no-one thinks they know fuck all useful anyway.

Can't be many managerial appointments above League 1 that go to an open application, people line who up they want before they bin the incumbent 99% of the time.
Of course all clubs enter a recruitment process with someone in mind, that someone doesn't need to be from the same agent though. You are correct Shi knows fuck all, he's a comedically stupid head of a PL football club, but that's not new news. Villa sacked Smith and went after Gerrard, that might be an awful appointment, but it was an independent awful appointment. We go Jorge who have you got?

This is the first time I’ve seen it mentioned, an understandable resignation dulling it for most Im sure, but yes, I’m really furious too. It’s genuinely angering me to see good players mismanaged. I’m absolutely in agreement that the fundamental issues lie higher up, but nonetheless, that was a shameful day.

Maybe it’s coincidental but the evidence on the pitch would be entirely consistent with elite players being subjected to coaching by a team who are operating several levels below them. We didn’t have to break what we had and replace it with a mid-table Championship management team, but we did, and here we are. Punts describes in pithy but horrifying terms the next steps if we persist.

Todays episode almost defies analysis. It was so fundamentally broken on every level (including the obvious commercial outcomes) that, in any other sector, a responsible Board would be taking decisive action right now. Obviously I don’t suspect they are responsible at all, unfortunately.

We’ll always have Man U away. Hang on, maybe Ben Foster was playing the long game and is having the last laugh now?

He’s said some nonsense about “picking the players who want to go to war with him” or similar.

Can only assume that’s why Hwang keeps getting a go. Adds credence to the training ground dramas too

Regurgitating Gerrards presser after we beat them here, disappointed they didn't go go war from minute one.

"I just said to the players, 'I thought this was a local derby, where we had to come out of the blocks and have a war from the first minute'. But we only started having a war in the 70th minute and it was too late, but we've only got ourselves to blame.

League position is masking over some huge cracks in the foundations.
If you’re looking from the outside in you’d say we’ve had a good season. I think what happened is Bruno tried to play attacking football for the first 5 games it went horribly wrong v Brentford then reverted to pragmatism to get some points on the board and save his own skin.
Whatever happens I think we’ve some huge problems next season.
Firstly if Bruno is here he’ll be on borrowed time from the start and will be gone just before the World Cup break.
If he is sacked I really don’t trust the board to make a sound appointment. Personally if Forrest didn’t go up I’d be going for Steve Cooper but we won’t.
the squad overhaul is huge, 1-2 CH needed 2-3 CM needed 2 forwards needed.
Minimum of 6 in required that’s not going to happen and again I doubt they’d recruit properly.
Reality we’ve got to change as I think Bruno is frankly not up to PL management.
Being harsh but I think the likes of Neves, Moutinho, Coady and Sa have kept things going from the Nuno era which has helped us.
We’ve got zero identity, we’re predictable to play against.
Today was an example of one side that’s well drilled and well coached and that’s looked lost for weeks.
We’re almost certainly going into next season trying to find 3 worse than us.

Most bored i’ve been at a game for a long while. Team he picked was wrong, the way he set up the team he picked was wrong, his subs were wrong and made us worse. Majority of the players were awful too. It was the sort of game that indicates something is deeply wrong. Bruno has got everything wrong now for 3 consecutive 90 minutes and i’m not sure how it gets better, he’s also getting players off the hook as some of them deserve criticism after today.

Said at half time when we saw Neto and Raul warming up what he was going to do and that it would be worse and unfortunately i was proved right. I don’t think anyone rates Hwang but he along with Fabio were not the issue in the first half. They got in to some decent positions, got players involved but those players then fucked up royally, for example Donk smashing the ball along the six yard box instead of pulling it back or falling over from a very good flick on and Semedo smashing it over with a needless shot.

Really looking forward to Chelsea next week.

Pretty obvious with those words that he knows he's in the shit and he's attempting to get the board to back him over the players. Get him gone.

His record towards the end of this season will probably read 10 defeats in 14 fewer goals scored than games played negative GD and as many as 18 blanks in the league. The most damming stat though is that we never bar one freak result recover from going behind.
Compare that to the Nuno era where we were very good at recovering from falling behind.

Said it last week if Fosun just judge the season based on league position and points gained they’re burying their heads in the sand.
the squad imbalance is just ridiculous entering a PL season with only 3 senior CM beggars belief now that’s not all on Bruno recruitment in August was nothing short of a shambles. We’ve been lucky that Neves injury occurred when it did and not earlier in the season.
Key is how the manager deals with the business end of the season ie crunch games and putting a run together when it really matters.

Last season we gambled on getting away with inadequate cover, this season we've been short in midfield so I can see us buying a CH to partner Kilman and then finding that come October when one of them gets injured we have nobody else able to play in a four.

Listening to Ryan Leister on Twitter right now, and without saying much he has had a source saying that allegedly Jonny has had a massive bust up during the week...

Only one man for me and he’s probably just about ready for the step up to the Premier League.
Steve Cooper, got a decent CV, pretty sure he was in charge of the England kids when they won the World Cup with Foden and Gibbs-White.
Took over Forest when they were in free fall under the Brunoesque Chis Hughton.
Would probably be the end of the Portuguese adventure but it was good fun, at times, while it lasted.

I’m not entirely sure Neto and Raul were worse than Hwang and Silva?

Silva, quite literally, did nothing while at least Raul looked remotely interested when he came on (all be it he was pretty shit). And, I thought Neto was ok?

Today was pretty much a must win if we wanted 7th (unless we’re banking on beating Chelsea, City or Liverpool) and he picks a piss poor boring line up with three pedestrian central midfielders at home to Brighton?

Just look at that team sheet today - where are the goals coming from?

Neto looked fit enough to me in the second half? Why isn’t he starting? In a must win game, when we can’t score goals?

Time has run out for Bruno’s shit show, unfortunately.

I don't think you can give the players such an easy ride. Even if you put a Sunday League manager in charge of them they should know what they're capable of rather than being dragged down to whatever level they're being coached at.

Lage has done little to gain any credit but I do think he's become a magnet for anything negative lately and gets the blame for pretty much everything. Take the Leeds game as an example, he did nothing tactically after the Jimenez sending off but to my mind at least his tactics weren't directly responsible for any of the goals. They were all shitty individual errors, more than one for each goal too, that no tactical setup is ever going to be able to account for. The last in particular from a set piece it's completely removed from anything in the manager in my opinion, nothing he could've done there to stop Boly and Dendoncker completely throwing that away.

If you felt you were being sold down the river by management at work, being asked to do something you considered wrong would you blindly follow it or would you challenge it? It sounds like today the players largely went for the secret third option of doing absolutely fuck all for the most part instead which is completely unacceptable.

I remember something before with Henry talking about some game when he was at Barca. Pep had told him he had to keep making a particular run but as the game progressed Henry grew frustrated that his run was easily covered off every time and there was space elsewhere, so he went rogue made a different run and that lead to a goal. Apparently Pep tore him and new one at half time and maybe even subbed him off for not following the plan. Shame no-one at Wolves seems to have anything like that level of conviction, either in the coaching or playing staff, none of them seem to give much of a fuck about anything at the moment.

Agreed. It'll be one off Jorge's list though I'd have thought.

Just got back from the game - well about a couple of hours ago. My youngest son's first match! Thanks Wolves. Having stuffed down a Chinese takeaway of pan fried dumplings, spicy chicken wings, Singapore noodles and chicken, ginger and spring onion, washed down with a few Peroni's, I'm feeling a bit better with the world. However, not that well to not be able to say fuck off Bruno you idiot! Once again he picked the wrong starting XI and wrong formation. He subbed off Fabio when Hwang was dog-doo, again. The players don't look like they give a toss. Coady's being shown up now as someone who can't lead when the going get's tough, so what does he have to offer? Dendonkey? Nothing more to say there. A few bright lights, in Neto and RAN. However, the buck stops with Bruno. His position as our manager surely now hangs by a thread. I'd get rid. Don't ask me who should replace him but the man who sat in the opposition dug-out today doesn't look like a bad option, does he?

Neto ran around which was more than most but the subs did make us worse. The second half was atrocious. Guess he didn’t start because he could barely move his legs last week, he did everything wrong. Oh and Bruno loves Hwang.

If you think Fabio did nothing and Raul was better then it’s pointless me getting in to a discussion about it. Better at falling over and as the lad next to me said maybe Brighton should put a bid in for him as he linked the play well for them.

The one thing Raul didn't do is look remotely interested, bullied by Webster and the second goal was pitiful. Hwang was our best player in the first half and Fabio did what he could. As long as we play with those 2 full backs at wing back, particularly in that formation whoever is up top wont see a lot of the ball
